According to The Wall Street Journal article below, people regularly ask a General if the United States Space Force is "real." 🙄 I highlight this NOT because any of my LinkedIn friends and followers would make the same mistake. I hope I've done a good job highlighting the newest military branch and its criticality to the future #5ir #spaceeconomy. But, just in case: (1) 20 Dec 2019 is the #SpaceForce bday, so it's a bit younger than my beloved #USMC 😎 (2) Headcount of 10-15k, depending on how you count, but still by far the smallest branch of the military. (3) U.S. Space Command is NOT the same as Space Force—unified combatant command vs service responsible for training, organizing, and equipment. (4) Budget $29B. Primarily reallocated from prior dispersed operations now consolidated. Also, its budget is $4B+ more than NASA's, a phenomenon known as the "Space Flippening." (5) Space Force exists to protect the $4T in the 2040s and $10T in the 2050s Space Economy for the USA and its allies. It's always important to remind ourselves that we risk talking in echo chambers if we don't expand our circles and try new things. Or if, every once in a while, we fail to stop to reiterate and explain ourselves clearly. #Space is important. -GSP- The Space Economy MilkyWayEconomy

SHARE AMERICA! An America 250 Years of History Snapshot! HISTORY OF THE U.S. SPACEFORCE - USSF US Army US Navy United States Marine Corps United States Air Force U.S. Coast Guard United States Space Force Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) The American Legion Vietnam Veterans of America United States Department of Defense Pentagon, US Department of Defense, Office of the Secretary of Defense for Policy Naval Special Warfare Command - Navy SEAL & SWCC Teams --- --- --- --- HISTORY OF THE U.S. SPACEFORCE - USSF The U.S. Space Force was established Dec. 20, 2019, when the National Defense Authorization Act was signed into law (with bi-partisan support), creating the first new branch of the armed services in 73 years. The establishment of the USSF resulted from widespread recognition that Space was a national security imperative. When combined with the growing threat posed by near-peer competitors in space, it became clear there was a need for a military service focused solely on pursuing superiority in the space domain. For the last 60 years space capabilities have become essential to the way a modern military conducts operations. Investments in space capabilities have increased the effectiveness of operations in every other domain. The U.S. military is faster, better connected, more informed, precise, and lethal because of space. The same premise—that space is critical—holds true for the average American; space capabilities are woven into the fabric of daily life. Satellites connect people in every corner of the globe, monitor weather patterns, carry television broadcasts, and the timing and navigation services of the GPS constellation power global financial networks, enable international commerce, synchronize cell phone networks, and optimize critical infrastructure. Access to and freedom to operate in space underpins our national security and economic prosperity. However, space is no longer free from conflict. Potential adversaries are seeking ways to deny the U.S. access to the space capabilities fundamental to our way of war and modern way of life. They have developed an array of threats, both on Earth and in orbit, that continue to grow in scope, scale, and complexity. Today, the Guardians of the USSF have been called to protect and defend American interests and to ensure our forces, our allies, and the world never experience a day without space. They serve across the globe, working 24/7 to design, acquire, field, test, operate, and defend the critical space systems the nation, and the world, rely upon. --- --- --- United States Space Force USSF #NationalFreedomAndLibertyTreeProject Sons of the American Revolution Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Daughters of the American Revolution America250 Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of California General Society of Mayflower Descendants ORDER OF THE FOUNDERS & PATRIOTS OF AMERICA

ISR is a critical component to warfighting in every domain. A holistic understanding of the threat is paramount. Knowing the physical properties of the space system is a good baseline; however, the more important component is understanding the cognitive dimension of the complete system (think decision makers managing the satellite constellation). The human component goes beyond “how” the space system operates. Adding the cognitive (inherently human) dimension into the equation gets to “why” the space system operates and “how” it is integrated into a larger kill chain. Answering both “how” and “why” gets to adversary intent, and that is what ISR units (like the 75th ISR Squadron) help derive. I assess this is the reason the space community pivoted from “space situational awareness” to “space domain awareness.” Knowing where satellites are in space is no longer good enough… “She explained that the 75th ISR Squadron is looking at not just how to take out enemy satellites on orbit, but also the other dimensions of space systems, including ground facilities and the command and control data links in between.” Great article Lt. Gen. Whiting is correct. Army space is essential to meet the future challenges in the Space Domain.
U.S. Space Command’s top general voiced support for the U.S. Army’s efforts to expand its space expertise, pushing back against criticism that such initiatives encroach on Space Force territory. Gen. Stephen Whiting, commander of U.S. Space Command, addressed the issue during a Q&A session at a National Defense Industrial Association conference in Colorado earlier this week. His comments came in response to a recent op-ed by the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies, a think tank affiliated with the Air & Space Forces Association, which argued that the Army’s latest space initiatives unnecessarily duplicate Space Force capabilities.

LOST IN SPACE Over the last decade, the United States has increasingly relied on satellite systems for military operations, communication, and navigation, making them some of our most critical assets. During this same period, our adversaries developed more sophisticated counter-space capabilities, particularly as they relate to EMI, EMPs, and DEWs. In recent years, Congress and the DOD have begun to play catch-up budgeting, spending some $842 billion in FY 2024 and providing a modest increase for FY 2025. Given the immensity of the threat and the sheer number of assets at risk, this expenditure level will not reduce the threat significantly. #spacewarfare #EMS #EMP #nationaldefense
