For your consideration, from yesterday’s testimony of General Stephen Whiting, Commander U.S. Space Command, before the Senate Armed Services Committee: “On-orbit refueling, in-space assembly, modular hardware change-out, and urgent orbital resupply would enable dynamic space operations and change how this Command achieves and maintains space superiority. Legacy space systems, constrained by the technological limitations of their time, were launched to space with only the fuel and payloads they would have for their lifetimes; thus, they have minimal operational maneuverability, flexibility, or inherent defensive capability. Modern systems, beginning today, must provide greater flexibility through maneuver, upgradability, or re-supply. Dynamic space platforms purpose-built to support space maneuver will provide far greater capability and capacity to deter, surprise, maintain initiative, and conduct other operations required today and in the near future. The PRC is moving forward in this area. The urgency with which we must approach, and appropriately fund, this critical endeavor cannot be overstated.” #maneuver_without_regret

Top 5 take aways here: 1. The Space Force is establishing the "Space Futures Command" to forecast future threats, develop operational concepts, validate technologies, and conduct wargames, aiming to determine necessary missions and systems for combating future threats. 2. This initiative is part of a broader overhaul announced in February by the Department of the Air Force, preparing for potential conflicts, notably with China, by enhancing the capabilities and organization of the Air and Space Forces. 3. The Space Futures Command will encompass three main centers: the existing Space Warfighting Analysis Center (SWAC), a new Concepts and Technologies Center to develop strategies and identify technology gaps, and a new Wargaming Center for assessing military utility and operational concepts. 4. While the SWAC's role in informing future force design remains unchanged, the new command will integrate various efforts across the Space Force, focusing on prioritizing missions, identifying game-changing technologies, and understanding the evolving threat environment. 5. Officials highlighted specific areas of interest, including operations in the cislunar space (the region between geosynchronous orbit and the moon) and on-orbit refueling, as examples of missions the command might explore to advance the Space Force's capabilities and readiness for future challenges. https://lnkd.in/gs49gE5c

On Dec. 7, 2023, Aalyria successfully demonstrated for over 150 U.S. Government leaders that our #Spacetime platform is the real-time common control plane for a self-healing, multi-orbit, multi-frequency (RF and optical), all-domain mesh network. What does that mean? It means that #CJADC2 will be a reality sooner than anyone thought possible. It means that legacy networks can now speak to new networks It means that we can now bring together commercial, government, and civil constellations to act as one network. It means that we can help commercial satellite operators to be more efficient, effective, and profitable with their multi-orbit spectrum and larger business aspirations. It means that Powerpoint slides can now become operational capability for the #USG, #AUKUS, #Quad, #FVEY, NATO, and other allied nations and organizations. #Spacetime and #Tightbeam will catapault a new space economy and be the foundation of an agile deterrence for a more prosperous and peaceful planet. We love what we do - thanks to the Space Systems Command, Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), and U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, and all of the Aalyrians who made this day happen. United States Space Force is near finalization of a key strategy document outlining how it will partner with the burgeoning commercial space industry. After months of refinement, Deputy Chief of Space Operations Lt. Gen. DeAnna Burt announced Jan. 5 at the The Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies that the document is nearing completion. This blueprint will guide the Space Force’s integration of commercial satellite services into its routine operations, aiming to leverage private sector innovation to strengthen U.S. military space systems. #usspaceforce #nationalsecurity #spaceindustry ________ Approach Venture enables founding teams building the future of frontier technology to achieve their full potential.

America 250 HISTORY The U.S. SPACEFORCE turns 5 years old! The U.S. Space Force was established Dec. 20, 2019, when the National Defense Authorization Act was signed into law (with bi-partisan support), creating the first new branch of the armed services in 73 years. The establishment of the USSF resulted from widespread recognition that Space was a national security imperative. When combined with the growing threat posed by near-peer competitors in space, it became clear there was a need for a military service focused solely on pursuing superiority in the space domain. For the last 60 years space capabilities have become essential to the way a modern military conducts operations. Investments in space capabilities have increased the effectiveness of operations in every other domain. The U.S. military is faster, better connected, more informed, precise, and lethal because of space. The same premise—that space is critical—holds true for the average American; space capabilities are woven into the fabric of daily life. Satellites connect people in every corner of the globe, monitor weather patterns, carry television broadcasts, and the timing and navigation services of the GPS constellation power global financial networks, enable international commerce, synchronize cell phone networks, and optimize critical infrastructure. Access to and freedom to operate in space underpins our national security and economic prosperity. However, space is no longer free from conflict. Potential adversaries are seeking ways to deny the U.S. access to the space capabilities fundamental to our way of war and modern way of life. They have developed an array of threats, both on Earth and in orbit, that continue to grow in scope, scale, and complexity. Today, the Guardians of the USSF have been called to protect and defend American interests and to ensure our forces, our allies, and the world never experience a day without space. They serve across the globe, working 24/7 to design, acquire, field, test, operate, and defend the critical space systems the nation, and the world, rely upon.

This is the right approach. Years ago, I wrote a blog about the Maginot Line in Space and the danger of expensive systems that are targets for cheaper satellites. A proliferated, disaggregated system including hosted payloads on LEO and GEO is the right answer. By presenting a resilient fabric, you reduce the risk of attack because the threat is incapable of achieving their desired effects and will use a different strategy. #space #resilient #defense
An analysis of the U.S. Space Force’s budget proposed for fiscal year 2025 indicates the service is embracing a new approach to military satellite architectures.

Under the topic of “securing space” the U.S. Space Force and U.S. Space Command submitted a combined $2.3 billion in “unfunded requirements” to Congress last week, with the vast majority of the funds requested for classified programs aimed at space control, space superiority, and space domain awareness. These are broad categories of technologies sought by the military to protect U.S. assets in orbit from anti-satellite weapons being developed by China and Russia. The unfunded priorities list is an annual ritual in which the military services detail important priorities and capabilities left out of the president’s official budget request. The items in the Space Force’s $1.1 billion and Space Command’s $1.2 billion lists did not make it into the fiscal year 2025 budget proposal the Pentagon submitted to Congress on March 11, which included $29.4 billion for the Space Force. Space Command is a combatant organization that relies on the Space Force to acquire the space hardware and systems needed for operations in the space domain. #nationalsecurity #intelligence #connectivity #cyber #connectivitymatters #hacking #military #communications #cybersecurity #security #infosec #networksecurity #newspace #newspaceeconomy #strategy #constellations #satellite #space #satelliteoperatos #satcoms #satellitesystems #satelliteoperations #ops #opsec #telecommunications #spaceindustry #LowEarthOrbit #sda #megaconstellations #spaceindustry #esa #nasa #eu #europe #cyberwarfare #cyberdefense #defense #jamming #antijamming #resilience #oneweb #starlink #kuiper #mpower #SES #EUTELSAT #spacex #telesat #milsatcom #govsatcom #sda #spacecraft #internetofthings #development #spacedata #iris2 #cubesat #MichaelHadjitheodosiou https://lnkd.in/gBj6KGsY
