Liberty Media announces acquisition of MotoGP World Championship. Formula 1 owner has finalised the purchase of the world's leading motorcycle racing championship. The American entertainment company, which owns the rights to Formula 1 since 2016, will take over Dorna, which has owned MotoGP since 1992 and also controls WorldSBK and the MotoE World Cup. A cool €4.2 billion deal. Liberty Media is set to own 86% of MotoGP, leaving the existing management to retain a solid 14% stake in the business. Will we see them apply the same winning strategy that has kept Formula 1 at the top of its game? The chequered flag has dropped, and the future looks very bright for the pinnacle of the 2 wheels. Will this be a positive move for MotoGP? A full yes for me. I foresee a more fan-centric approach, both online and on track, and an expanded vision for the sport. P.S Liberty Media now owns the world’s top motor racing championships in Formula 1 and MotoGP. #motorsport #motogp

Following Liberty Media's acquisition of an 86% ownership stake in Dorna Sports, the commercial rights holder for MotoGP, the idea of Formula 1 and MotoGP holding joint race weekends has surfaced. Lewis Hamilton recently expressed his support for such an event, noting it would be interesting to see the two leading racing series come together. Since taking over Formula 1 in 2017, Liberty Media has been recognised for enhancing the sport's profile and value. The joint ownership of both F1 and MotoGP could lead to new possibilities for fan engagement and event formats, though the practicality of such events, including venue suitability, will require careful evaluation. As we anticipate this possible integration, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Could this be the future of motorsport entertainment? What do you think are the key challenges and opportunities? #F1 #MotoGP #LibertyMedia #Motorsport #LewisHamilton Pit Debrief
Hamilton believes “it would be epic” if F1 and MotoGP could do a joint weekend of racing

MotoGP™ is a series with undeniable cause for optimism at the moment, after what has been a tough few years. On the track, Marc Márquez seems invigorated by his move to Gresini Racing and there is plenty of excitement for the debut campaign of young Spaniard Pedro Acosta, already tipped by many to follow in the six-time champions' footsteps. Away from the track, significant steps have been made to increase the series' presence in North America. Whilst the Andretti saga in F1 promises to rumble on for a while yet, MotoGP have moved to welcome a US-based team - Trackhouse Racing - onto the grid for 2024, whilst talks are seemingly ongoing for a second US race in the near future, at the Flatrock Motorsport Arena in Tennessee. With a new media rights deal also confirmed with TNT Sports, expectations are that US interest in the series will only grow. Commercially, the series is in a much healthier position than it was a few years ago, and begins the 2024 season amid rumours of a sale that would value it at $4bn. Delving into the media, consumer and financial data in more detail, Cian Brittle sheds some more light on the current position of the series and what would need to be done by any prospective buyer to take it to the next level. #racing #motorsport #motogp #sportsbiz https://lnkd.in/eVhKtTUX

Formula1 Vs MotoGP. A Team Oriented versus a Star Oriented championship. In search of the formula for success. Formula 1 and MotoGP represent the best of motorsport on 2 and 4 wheels. With 24 and 21 race weekends respectively, the two championships are a traveling promotional platform that over the course of 10 months touch some of the world’s most important markets. There are no other leagues comparable in geographical impact and frequency of events. Only the Olympics and World Cup enjoy the same prestige but the frequency is four years while the Champions Cup is a European phenomenon. What are the main differences between the two championships? The show. The two championships are profoundly different, offering a show at the antipodes in terms of the nature of the vehicles, the length of the races, and the simplicity (or complication in the case of F1) of the racing. The 45 minutes duration of MotoGP is ideal for keeping the audience’s attention high. The number and quality of overtakes ensure high tension at each event. The introduction of the sprint race on Saturday further enhanced these features by making MotoGP, if possible, even more engaging by producing content-rich weekends making the most of a potentially less interesting day. But there is more. And what is going to happen in the coming years…Aerodynamics in MotoGP and Tire Changes in Formula 1, are we really sure we need them? 👇 https://lnkd.in/ef4qUgsd #MotoGP #Formula1 #professionals
