⚡ Researchers have identified an essential protein that acts as a gatekeeper, regulating the entry of calcium into cells. Researchers have made a revolutionary discovery: the widely-used local anesthetic, lidocaine, may have the potential to combat head and neck cancer cells. This breakthrough lies in the fact that lidocaine targets the bitter taste receptor T2R14, leading to a series of cellular events that cause cancer cells to self-destruct. Lidocaine, well-known for its ability to help numb pain, initiates T2R14 activation, resulting in an increase in calcium and reactive oxygen species production. This, in turn, disrupts the functionality of the mitochondria (cellular power plants) and proteasomes (cellular waste disposal systems). This innovative approach to cancer treatment may be especially effective on cancers caused by human papillomavirus (HPV), where cells contain more of the TAS2R14 gene that lidocaine can target. #india #technology #innovation https://lnkd.in/eTCi9APF https://lnkd.in/eSeWXdXQ

Discovery of YAP1/TAZ pathway inhibitor with potent anti-tumor activity via blockade of Rho-GTPase signaling. The studies described here identifies a small molecule Bay-593 which inhibits geranylgeranyltrasferase-1 (GGTase-1) complex as the direct target of oncogenic protein YAP1/TAZ. Thus, Bay-593 blocks the activation of Rho-GTPases, leading to subsequent inactivation of YAP1/TAZ signaling and inhibition of cancer cell proliferation. Cell Chemical Biology, March 26, 2024.
