Once again, The Sustainable Angle team delivered a fantastic #FutureFabricsExpo in London this week. A big shout-out to Nina Marenzi, Amanda Johnston, Claire Jacqueline Weiss and the rest of the team - we know how much hard work goes into it. And, as always, wonderful to see so many bio innovators represented in the mix! The Future Fabrics Expo is an uplifting and positive event. This year it felt in stark contrast to the downcast mood at the Global Fashion Summit where the industry realised how little has been achieved and was sobered by the work left to do. As a counterpoint to this, talk at FFE was of collective action and moving beyond paralysis to find concrete solutions now. There is increasing talk of consolidation and collaboration, looking to how brands can set clear goals for manufacturers and innovators alike to reduce churn and help things move faster. This is alongside the vital discussion of who is going to pay for the work needed in the supply chain and help smooth the premiums that come with new materials. Questions surround the role of government in all of this, as well as the impact of legislation and EPR (extended producer responsibility). All of the above was perfectly coupled with the launch of the “Next Gen to This Gen: Scaling Material Innovations in the Fashion Sector” report by Sustainabelle Advisory Services. Backed by a survey of 157 stakeholders and 62 expert interviews highlights: “Key drivers, including regulatory pressures, risks to traditional supply chain, consumer demand and ambitious impact targets, are propelling brands to embrace these materials with more urgency.” But most importantly, it reveals how “lessons from climate tech sectors like solar and electric vehicles suggest a similar growth trajectory for Next Gen materials for fashion and show us the way to move forward.” Because if we can subsidise fossil fuels why can’t we substitute sustainable materials?! Finally, but most importantly the report points to the steps that can and need to be taken, because in the words of author Christine Goulay, “we need to find a way to make next-gen materials this gen", we can’t afford to wait! I am SUPER PLEASED to announce that I will be speaking at the Global Fashion Summit: Copenhagen Edition 2024 in 3 days, which takes place on 21-23 May! Presented by @globalfashionagenda, Global Fashion Summit stands as the leading international forum for sustainability in the fashion industry, where this year we will dive into the ‘Unlocking the Next Level’ editorial theme. 🌍 . Very excited to be on an awesome panel of 'Unpacking policy in sustainability: Principles of Ecodesign'. I can't wait to approach this from a scientific and systems based lens to help enable a more circular and humane mindset for ecodesign and re-engineering textile processes for 'more good'! 🌲 📚 . With deadlines for pledges made over the previous 15 years looming, the industry must now implement further actions that ambitiously address societal and environmental impacts and challenge the existing paradigm. The age of concepts and commitments is over – it is time to see near-term goals be implemented. 💪 . When: 21-23 May 2024 Where: Copenhagen Concert Hall Secure your ticket here: https://bit.ly/3PdWnX9 . #globalfashionagenda #globalfashionsummit #unlockingthenextlevel #copenhagen #sustainability #climatechange #circulareconomy #ecodesign -

Gerente Bosques y Sustentabilidad. Trabajo junto a mis equipos, para mejorar el desempeño ambiental de mi empresa, impactar la calidad de vida de nuestra gente, y generar un resultado positivo en la sociedad.
Challenge the Fabric, Milan 2024. Historical industry statistics don't lie: between 2000 and 2014 alone, clothing production doubled, and consumers began buying 60 percent more clothes and wearing them for half as long as before. In the world today, more than 100 billion pieces of clothing are produced per year for a global population of 8 billion people. Is there a solution to this reality? Appeal to a change in habits, but also the use of new inputs and fabrics of forest origin that consume a third of the energy and 60 times less water when compared to a synthetic fiber or cotton. This was one of the topics addressed at the Milan conference “Challenge the Fabric 2024”, which focused on sustainability, traceability and innovation in materials in the fashion industry and challenged designers to create sustainable looks to promote a shift towards bio-based and recycled materials. We had the opportunity to share Arauco’s sustainability practices in this challenging times and some trends that we see are going to happen in the future. New regulations, Ecosystem Services at Landscapes, and Nature Positiveness where some of them. Thank you Ekman Group and Nina Elmersson & Malin Hagström for the invitation and the other panelists with whom I had the chance to participate here in Italy. ✨ TOMRA x The Conduit presents A New Textile Revolution The textile industry is at a critical juncture, with a growing movement towards sustainability that contrasts sharply with the enduring appeal of fast fashion. As consumers increasingly embrace second-hand and high-end pre-loved fashion, the industry faces a stark challenge: its circularity rate is a mere 1%, highlighting an urgent need for transformation. In response, TOMRA and The Conduit are spearheading an initiative to drive this change, hosting a pivotal event that aims to chart the course from linear to circular textile practices. This gathering will unite thought leaders and innovators, including Cyndi Rhoades, Jenny Skavlan, Simen Mørdre, Vibeke Siljan Krohn, and Silje Lambrechts. They will share their thought-provoking insights and strategies for fostering a more sustainable industry. 🤝 Who: TOMRA and The Conduit Oslo’s members and invited network 📆 When: March 12th, 15.00 to 18.00 📍 Where: The Forum at The Conduit Oslo 🖱 Register Here: : https://lnkd.in/dqTxNFi9 (registration is essential). This event is not merely a forum for discussion but a beacon for action, emphasizing the role of each stakeholder in the industry's shift towards circularity. As we approach pivotal moments like Norway's 2025 elections, the imperative for integrating sustainability into broader dialogues becomes increasingly apparent. The collaboration between TOMRA and The Conduit underscores our shared dedication to pioneering solutions for the textile industry's most pressing issues. We are excited about the synergy this collaboration brings and eagerly anticipate your participation in this transformative journey. Together, let's champion a sustainable future by making a tangible impact. We're excited to kick off NY Climate Week with a conversation on the future of fashion. Our CEO Jo Marini will be speaking at the Fusion Fashion Tech Summit - an official Climate Week NYC Event occurring during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UGNA79), hosted by the Fusion Fashion Tech Society. She'll be joining an incredible panel to discuss the material innovations that are shaping a more sustainable and circular fashion industry. "Biomanufacturing promises to make next-gen textiles possible at scale — but today it’s powered by the legacy agricultural systems that it stands to disrupt. Valorized feedstocks pave the way for a future where circularity is literally woven into the fabric of our world." — Jo Marini (CEO & Co-Founder of Mothership Materials) Together with Cynthia Power, ELIZABETH ADERINOLA, Shannen Henry, MSc, and our moderator Sarah Kornfeld we’ll explore: 👖 Remanufacturing textile techniques 🍄 Regenerative feedstocks & materials 🍀 Nature-inspired fashion design ⭕ The role of circular technologies in transforming fashion economies It's all happening on Monday, September 23, 2024 - let us know if you'll be there! Fashion wants next-gen materials, but doesn’t know how to get there. At Première Vision Paris, we had the opportunity to discover the latest advances in sustainable fabrics and eco-responsible practices. However, the reduced presence of the Smart Creation space and fewer discussions on sustainability vs. last year were noticed by many attendees 🌿 The reality of the innovative materials market remains complex and challenging. Last week Sustainabelle Advisory Services published a new report backed by Kering and the Laudes Foundation that lays out the challenges and next steps for fashion’s #NextGen materials. For instance, brands seem to sign letters of intent instead of offtake agreements. During last week’s Future Fabrics Expo, material innovators confirmed these findings to Bella Webb in Vogue Business: 👻 Mira N. (Biophilica) talks about being ‘ghosted’ by brands who act interested but then disappear ⏳ Clare Lichfield (Sequinova) observes how brands play a “waiting game”, afraid to be the first 🎁 Stephanie Downs (UNCAGED Innovations) highlights the risks of traditional sourcing practices to ask for free custom prototypes to NextGen companies, who don’t have the resources to make this happen Disrupting the mainstream remains a challenging reality, and requires balancing design, financial and ecological considerations 🎨💸🌍 - a challenge we, at athena studio, help fashion product teams with in early product development. 🔗 Link: https://lnkd.in/eBNy3FvH #premierevision #sustainablefashion #smartcreation #fashion #fashiontech #materials #fabrics #sustainability #memesfriday

As part of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024, Circular Flanders and OVAM, organised a European acceleration day. We demonstrated our leadership role in Europe and in the world with our scaling up of higher R strategies. The interest in our technology, processes and practices was therefore enormous. More than 800 participants attended and more than 100 people followed the plenary session via live stream. As a surprise act, we showed a unique Belgian circular fashion show with 33 looks and live drummer Michael Schack. The ecological #footprint of the fashion industry is one of the largest in the world. That's why we showed sustainable, Belgian brands that 📍produce locally 👗use dead stock materials (surpluses from suppliers and designers) 🍄 make leather from mycellium fungi or apple remnants 🧵develop soluble yarn to disassemble clothes at end of life 🪡are making new pieces or yarns from old clothes 🚗 even giving resin from car windows a second life Brands shown: https://lnkd.in/e72hGigk Most of them rented at fashion library Dressr. #CircularEconomy #WCEF2024
