The Housing Authority of the City of Bessemer aims to provide individuals with safe and affordable housing. And at Spire, we believe natural gas supports that goal. Through the Dream Center, the housing authority is reimagining what public housing can be by providing a safe and fun location for local residents to gather, including an arts and crafts room, basketball courts and a natural gas kitchen. Matt and Kelvin, members of Spire's business and economic development team, joined local government officials and community members at a groundbreaking ceremony for the Dream Center and received recognition for their work in making the center a reality.🧡

🚨 Exciting News for Affordable Housing in Denver! 🚨 The City of Denver has taken a major step toward addressing the housing affordability crisis by acquiring key parcels in the Globeville neighborhood, setting the stage for a 170-unit income-restricted housing project. This development will provide much-needed affordable homes for local families, along with space for a new library branch 📚. With rents in Denver soaring nearly 27% since 2020, projects like these are crucial. Mayor Mike Johnston’s commitment to building 3,000 affordable units annually for the next eight years is a game-changer for low-income renters. The city's innovative land-lease model ensures permanent affordability, and it’s inspiring to see partnerships between public and private entities like Globeville Redevelopment Partners to make this happen. 👏 Kudos to all involved in making housing more accessible in Denver! #AffordableHousing #Denver #HousingCrisis #CommunityDevelopment #SustainableLiving

Architect, Passionate Urbanist, Author | Created the Concept of Missing Middle Housing | Voted Top 100 Urbanist: Past and Present | Wrote the Definitive Book on Form-Based Coding (Zoning Reform)
Must-read, thoughtful, and impactful strategies for every downtown from my colleague Brent Toderian. "Downtowns are complex ecosystems needing sophisticated and creative strategies rather than lazy, quick fixes." A few of my favorite highlights: 1. Importance in Eliminating Construction Defect Liability State-Wide:It is important that the State of CA (and many other states) take action to remove the construction defect liability. This is not only a barrier for the delivery of much-needed downtown housing, but it is also a barrier for the deliver of much-needed Missing Middle Housing or Gentle Density as Brent calls it. The State of Utah recently made these changes. 2. Prioritize People Over Cars: Almost every downtown implemented a one-way couplet system in their downtowns in the 70s-90s. The negative impact this has on the pedestrian experience is large. If pedestrians are not comfortable in your downtown, they will not return regularly. We recently proposed this strategy for our Downtown Hayward, CA Specific Plan even though they had only recently implemented the system because it was the primary element impacting the pedestrian experience. Please share your thoughts with Brent and me! #missingmiddlehousing #rethinkzoning #downtown
READ: “In short, housing stabilizes and supercharges the rest of the downtown ecosystem. But here’s the thing… it’s not just a numbers game. HOW we build downtown housing matters a lot.” Thanks @sfchronicle for the great positioning in your Sunday print edition! cc Downtown Sacramento Partnership Scott Ford https://lnkd.in/gX4UsVnt

Radiant Real Estate Maverick | Expert in Property Management | Enthusiast of Neighborhood and Historical Property Preservation
🏡 Let's take on Flint! 🏡 I'm happy to share that Chris and myself closed on a new project yesterday. We are starting the journey of rehabbing a lovable 2-bed and 1-bath Cape Cod in Flint, Michigan. With limited maintenance over the years, and recent fire damage, this home stood a good chance of being torn down. If that were to happen, it would leave a large gap in the middle of the block, and would likely go without anything replacing it. We felt compelled to make the move and tackle the job of giving this place another chance at life. Flint is more than just a city; it's a testament to the strength and perseverance of its residents. Despite facing challenges, the community has shown resilience, continuously striving for better days. We had the pleasure of meeting the surrounding neighbors today and it was awesome. Some really great people that take pride in their homes and care about those around them. In my career with Gillespie Group, we're dedicated to making a positive impact, not just in the business world, but also in the communities we serve. The Stadium District in downtown Lansing is the perfect example of revitalizing a great place to live, work, and play. This aligns perfectly with my personal values, as I believe in the power of grit and determination to drive meaningful change. Grit is one of our core values at Gillespie Group, and it's something I embody in my daily life. It's about having the perseverance and passion to see your work through to the bigger picture, even when the challenges are stacked against you. By investing in the restoration of historical properties like this 1941 home, we are not just renovating a house; we are contributing to the revitalization of a community. Stabilizing neighborhoods and providing quality housing that is affordable are essential steps in creating opportunities for residents and fostering economic growth. I'm proud to be part of this movement toward positive change, and I'm excited to see the impact our efforts will have on the Flint community. I hope this is one of many homes we can see turned around. I'll be sure to report back as construction gets underway! 🏠 #FlintStrong #CommunityRevitalization #Grit #GillespieGroup #RevitalizeMichigan #PropertyManagement #PMAMM #LoveLansing #HomeRenovation #RentalHomes #AffordableHousing #HistoricHomes #VehicleCity

Muskegon, Michigan, has turned vacant lots into affordable homes 🏡, revitalizing neighborhoods and making housing accessible. This innovative infill program accounts for 60% of new constructions since 2018, transforming communities with a history of neglect. The secret? Tax increment financing (TIF) 📉, allowing the city to build homes at costs residents can afford. With homes delivered well below average construction costs, Muskegon’s approach aligns with real people’s budgets. This success story can inspire New Hampshire 🌲. By adopting similar strategies, we can tackle our housing challenges, making our cities vibrant and inclusive. Let’s work together—local builders, city officials, and communities—to create affordable, quality housing for everyone. NH is a state filled with open land and available space. Let’s work to evolve this space into vibrant homes and make our state a place where everyone can thrive, all while keeping New Hampshire, New Hampshire. 🛠️🏠💡 Link in comments: ⬇️

Creative solutions are necessary in tough markets - idea sharing like this is key to unlocking housing growth. Cities need to abandon outdated and exclusionary zoning laws to enable higher density in residential neighborhoods, check this out in Atlanta...curious about ideas coming out of other cities. #realestatedevelopment #housing #placemaking #cities #urbandevelopment #community #ideas #impact #zoning #realestate
There are so many possibilities for more creative, attainable ways to provide housing. Our exclusionary zoning is one of the first barriers that needs to be rethought. But amazingly, Atlanta offers some really interesting infill possibilities in the incremental build-to-rent space. https://lnkd.in/eKyPQmFr

Big things coming to the south side of the Colorado River...I mean SoCo on Lady Bird 🤣 🏙️ **Austin's South Central Waterfront District is undergoing significant development changes:** - 📅 In 2016, the City of Austin adopted a planning framework for the South Central Waterfront district to promote urban and connected development across its 118-acre area. - 🚫 Despite the framework, a formal regulating plan for new projects within this district has not been officially adopted. - 🚉 The arrival of Project Connect's light rail lines has intensified efforts to implement development regulations to support transit-oriented housing and commercial land use. - 🏗️ The city plans to introduce a Combining District and Density Bonus Program to encourage larger developments with community benefits like affordable housing. - 📈 Proposed regulations would allow for building heights of up to 50 floors or more, aiming to create around 481 affordable housing units in the area. https://lnkd.in/epTQm-Ra

‘Co-operative housing is an important part of a diverse housing sector, and we are delighted to see co-operative housing now reflected as a mainstream housing pathway in the State of the Housing System Report (2024)’ - from CEHL Managing Director Liz Thomas. The report acknowledges ‘housing cooperatives as an emerging form of tenure’ and notes the emergence of alternative housing ownership models to address the imbalance of housing supply and demand for renters and buyers. These include build-to-rent, rent-to-buy, shared equity and co-operative schemes. CEHL has worked with partners in the Australian Co-operative Housing Alliance (ACHA) and Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals (BCCM) to advocate for co-operatives as a globally recognised structure used by people around the world to attain housing security. We will continue to work to with sector partners to further influence housing policy and take this opportunity to scale up the Australian co-operative housing model. https://lnkd.in/g-_Zt-tu
