The Team Dunlop Road Race program will start at the Mission Mini Cup by Motul National Final from August 9-11 at Road America. Most racing drivers fail because of sponsorship…here’s why: 🏎️ Brands don’t have spare cash 🏎️ A day at the races can’t be claimed as marketing 🏎️ There isn’t enough money to go around! These are of course all FALSE excuses racing drivers make. Why? 1) Racing drivers off the same package to every company they speak to 2) A Logo on a car & hospitality isn’t marketing 3) There is definitely plenty of money in society! I believe that Racing Drivers need to change their attitude… 🏎️ How can I help brands sell more products / services? 🏎️ What does a brand want from their marketing budget? 🏎️ What can I do differently to help brands succeed? Find ways to help companies succeed and educate them how you can help them. Personalise your approach and act as a marketing consultant to help solve their problems. Then they are more likely to give you funding for your racing career! As a young driver, I find businesses are very skeptical supporting grassroots talent. Even though I contact businesses with a very fulfilling opportunity to collaborate where I can genuinely see a good opportunity for growth and return on the investment, businesses are very skeptical or reluctant to acknowledge the opportunity. While young talent may represents a developing career, it also symbolises fresh perspectives, unparalleled drive, and unwavering commitment to success. It will be fantastic if businesses could look beyond the initial uncertainty and engage in a conversation and recognise the potential that a young racing driver could bring to the business growth and success. The big news in motorsport this week is the (unsurprising) announcement that Mastercard have returned to Formula 1, by partnering with McLaren Racing 🏎 💳 ✨ It has been reported that McLaren Racing were in a battle with Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team for Mastercard's sponsorship, with the Woking-based team just winning out. However, for those in the industry, Mastercard's decision comes as no surprise. McLaren Racing is renowned for its strong sponsorship acquisition, largely credited to the commercial approach of CEO Zak Brown. Prior to his role as CEO of McLaren Racing, Brown owned Just Marketing International, one of the most successful motorsport marketing and sponsorship agencies of all time. One of the reasons JMI, and now McLaren, were so successful is because they saw the benefit in offering unbundled sponsorship packages, meaning rights are broken down into much smaller units. On this basis, rightsholders can create tailored proposals that suit the sponsor's needs. It's therefore no surprise that Brown (and his brilliant commercial team at McLaren Racing) have been so successful in acquiring sponsors over the last few years.
