Terra Nova wins major copper mine crushing & conveying EPC contract Murray & Roberts has announced that its subsidiary Terra Nova Technologies, Inc (TNT), in joint venture with Sigdo Koppers SKIC, has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (#EPC) contract with a large #copper producer for a mine in #SouthAmerica. The contract value is approximately US$200 million, with TNT’s share in the joint venture being 51%. The scope of work includes a primary crushing facility, a 6.3 km long #overlandconveyor, a 23 kV power transmission system, and associated infrastructure. Starting in April 2024, the project is expected to have a duration of 27 months. M&R said: “This significant award reinforces TNT’s strong capability to deliver complete EPC material handling systems in Latin America and is a welcome order for the business who had to rebuild its order book since the end of COVID, as limited materials handling opportunities came to market during this period.” TNT, headquartered in California, provides materials handling design, consulting services, design/supply sourcing, and general contracting to the mining and minerals processing and other #bulkmaterials industries throughout the world. TNT was acquired by Cementation Americas in 2019 and was a strong contributor to M&R earnings in the year prior to the pandemic. The #primarycrushing facility is a #modular #primarygyratory station and follows the successful execution of a similar project at BHP’s #Spence mine in Chile. For the forthcoming in-pit crushing & conveying report in International Mining‘s May edition, TNT’s Director of Business Development, Paul Emerson commented: “One of TNT’s key developments has been the advancement of their modular primary gyratory crushing stations. These stations, designed for flexibility and efficiency, can be installed quickly in large, prefabricated modules. Air Cooling Systems Ventilation and cooling are life-sustaining factors, critical to the success of underground mining operations. In many instances cooling may be provided using ambient air only, however, depth of mining and ore extraction and handling methodologies often demand the addition of mechanical air cooling systems to achieve acceptable workplace temperatures. Mine air cooling means three things to mine owners: production, safety, and cost. Suitably designed air cooling systems, whether on surface or underground, enable production by providing a safe work environment suitable for both personnel and machinery. Reliability of ventilation and cooling plants are critical to ensure mining is unencumbered. And while production is key, mine owners must ensure that the cost of their life support systems are not crippling. Understanding the fine balance between ventilation-only and ventilation-and-cooling is vital to reduce upfront capital (particularly during early development) and operating costs over the life of the mine. Positive processing results from our Hillgrove Gold & Antimony Project, with study identifying the plant capacity can easily double from 220,000tpa to over 500,000tpa. Minimal upgrades are required to double capacity to produce a Gold Doré, Antimony Concentrate, and Gold Concentrate with a high-grade gold concentrate of over 150g/t Au achievable by upgrading the float concentrate with simple gravity separation using a multi gravity separator. The study has identified significant project economic benefits available by simple plant modification with a low upfront expense and effort. Managing Director, Ron Heeks commented, “As expected, the Hillgrove Gold and Antimony Mine is shaping up to be an exciting opportunity that provides Larvotto Resources with a rapid pathway to production. The engineering study completed by Mincore indicates the Hillgrove Gold and Antimony Processing Infrastructure can produce Gold Doré (gold bars), Antimony Concentrate, and Gold Concentrate with minimal upgrades to the current circuit at an expanded crusher feed rate of 500,000 tpa, double that of historical operations. This will significantly decrease unit production costs while increasing gold and antimony production. Scoping level testwork undertaken on historical concentrate also indicates the multi gravity separator is a potential game changer for the Hillgrove Gold Mine. Taking the gold concentrate grades from around 40 g/t gold to over 150 g/t provides a high quality gold concentrate with very low impurities that will maximise the return on sales. Larvotto suspected that simple plant modifications could improve concentrate quality while increasing production resulting in improved returns of product sales.
