New Imaging for Women with Dense Breasts and High Risk CEM is the latest breast imaging technology that is helpful as a screening tool with women with dense breasts who are at high risk for developing breast cancer. THE INVISIBLE BECOMES VISIBLE For your patients, CEM delivers increased confidence similar to diagnostic performance of contrast-enhanced breast MRI. It subtracts background breast parenchyma, allowing for regions of abnormal blood flow to be displayed. This procedure is faster and more comfortable than breast MRI, with less stress and lower noise levels. CEM enhances visualization and can uncover abnormalities obscured by dense background breast tissue, crucial to reducing missed and undiagnosed cancers. For your patients, this means earlier detection and more lives saved. If you have questions about this exam or need to speak with a Radiologist to determine if this exam is appropriate for a specific patient, please call 828-894-0850. In breast imaging, various techniques are used to create images of the breast tissue for diagnostic purposes. Mammography is a type of breast imaging that specifically uses low-dose X-rays to detect and diagnose breast cancer and other breast abnormalities. While mammography is a key tool in breast imaging, there are other modalities that can also be used to provide additional information about the breast tissue. Each imaging technique has its own advantages and limitations, and the choice of which modality to use depends on the individual patient's needs and the specific clinical situation. Ultimately, the goal of breast imaging is to detect breast cancer and other maladies at an early stage when it is most treatable, and to provide accurate information to guide treatment decisions.

Newly Published New review article out, "The paradox of MRI for breast cancer screening: high-risk and dense breasts—available evidence and current practice" details the evidence supporting screening MRI for women with dense breasts. Should the evidence be enough for guidelines and implementation? As a reminder, in Europe, EUSOBI’s most recent screening recommendations call for supplemental MRI or ultrasound for women with category C or D (dense) breasts, with an explicit recommendation of MRI at a minimum of every 4 years for women with extremely dense breasts. In the USA, the American College of Radiology states “For women with dense breasts who desire supplemental screening, breast MRI is recommended.” Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/dzSX85E8

Up to a quarter of prostate cancer surgeries do not meet their goal of obtaining a complete resection with negative surgical margins. Prof. Alberto Martini and colleagues published an interesting analysis a few years ago to estimate the radiation therapy cost incurred due to positive surgical margins (PSMs). They estimated that a staggering USD 52 million in yearly radiation therapy costs was attributable to PSMs. 👉 See comments for the link to the full paper. This is only a fraction of the total cost due to PSMs, as there is an impact on much more than the need for radiation therapy alone. This again underpins the need to enhance the probablity of a complete surgical resection in radical prostatectomy. 💡 Want to learn more about how specimen PET-CT imaging may help ensure a complete resection in prostate and other cancers? 👉 Check out the clinical cases on our website (link in comments). #PETCT #imaging #medicalimaging #specimenimaging #intraoperative #prostatecancer

The latest CESM (Contrast-Enhanced Spectral Mammography) technology with biopsy integration marks a significant advancement in breast imaging and diagnostic capabilities. CESM with biopsy allows for targeted tissue sampling directly guided by the contrast-enhanced images, which enhance visualization of suspicious areas within the breast tissue. This integration not only improves the accuracy and precision of biopsy procedures but also streamlines the diagnostic workflow, reducing patient discomfort and anxiety associated with multiple procedures. By combining high-resolution imaging with precise biopsy capabilities, CESM with biopsy represents a pivotal step forward in personalized breast cancer care, facilitating earlier detection, more accurate diagnosis, and tailored treatment strategies for patients.
