Valorisation of by-products by understanding the composition-structure-process-properties relationships   Happy to share a new article, studying how processing can give new functionalities and valorise brewer's spent grains – BSG, a by-product from beer production. In this work, we developed alkaline hydrogen peroxide processes to modify the structure and composition of BSG. 🌱 Excited to share our latest publication on acidogenic fermentation of cassava wastewater! 🌱 This study delves into a promising technology that halts methanogenesis in conventional anaerobic digestion to primarily produce volatile fatty acids (VFAs). These VFAs are essential precursors for energy-rich and higher value-added products, making this process highly valuable for sustainable biotechnological applications. Our research highlights the potential of cassava wastewater as a resource for producing VFAs, contributing to more efficient and eco-friendly waste management practices. By optimizing fermentation conditions as fermentation time and pH, we can significantly enhance VFA yield, paving the way for sustainable innovations in the field of biotechnology. Aiming to take the production of natural rubber to a sustainable level, Paris-based startup baCta enables the production of natural rubber in a laboratory environment using genetically modified bacteria (Escherichia coli). The company states that this method, which is fed with glucose, is a carbon-free process and aims to diversify it with renewable resources such as acetate and carbon in the future. With a new investment of 3.3 million Euros, baCta aims to implement this laboratory-scale process on an industrial scale and increase the amounts produced and offer it to other companies. CEO and founder Mathieu Nohet states that they have managed to polymerize rubber production in bacteria with this technology, and emphasizes that the process provides significant carbon savings compared to traditional methods. Offering both an environmentally friendly solution and targeting a competitive price with its innovative bioengineering and synthetic enzyme technology, baCta opens the doors to new generation rubber production with its sustainable and environmentally friendly production processes. Fatty amines are crucial components in many industries, but traditional production methods raise environmental🌱 concerns. The FLEXIZYME project has emerged to tackle this issue. Funded by Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) , FLEXIZYME is a four years project that ITENE is proud to contribute to and coordinate.
