According to Lance Dickerson, MD at REVOV Batteries (Pty) Ltd South Africa could well be at the forefront of the circular economy if 2nd LiFe enters the equation. 2nd LiFe batteries have a significantly reduced carbon footprint - upwards of 80% less than traditional LifePO4 Lithium batteries as they've essentially paid for their carbon cost in their first life as electric vehicle battery cells. https://lnkd.in/dA6tuzv3

CALSTART has released this year’s "Zeroing in on Zero-Emission Buses" update. 🌍🚍 In the past year, U.S. and Canadian transit agencies have made impressive strides in zero-emission buses (ZEBs). 🦅🗽🏈 The U.S. saw a 12% increase in full-size transit ZEBs, reaching 6,147, with California leading at 1,946. Fuel cell electric buses (FCEBs) soared by 75%, showing a growing interest in fuel cell tech. Battery-electric buses (BEBs) still dominate, but states like New York (+66%) and others saw over 50% growth. In partnership with CPKC, CSX presented the first hydrogen-powered locomotive on April 16. More efficiency and zero emissions are the main benefits of using hydrogen as an alternative to fossil fuels, as it replaces all carbon output with water vapor.   The engine was converted from an existing diesel locomotive using a conversion kit developed by CPKC, allowing the frame, cab, trucks, and additional parts, to be used with the new railway engine. I posted a week ago about Walmart starting to use hydrogen-fueled trucks. A student asked me refueling, and as part of my answer I discussed how the infrastructure would come when/if more industries adopted the fuel. And this is precisely what I mean... "The Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) announced Wednesday that it received a $22.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to buy 10 hydrogen-fueled buses and a fueling station." Hypothetically speaking, this endeavor could lead to a provider (or providers) having a larger presence in Central Ohio, which means better infrastructure, and lower entry costs for other businesses. That leads to more adoption, more infrastructure, and the cycle (hopefully) continues.
