💥🙌 Raytheon has flight-tested an upgraded AMRAAM-Extended Range variant from a National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System. The Norwegian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces supported the variant’s maiden flight test, demonstrating its safe firing from the NASAMS launcher. It features the AIM-120 C-8’s guidance section, Nammo AS’ more robust 10-inch rocket motor, and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace’s 10-inch Control Actuator System, called the Norwegian Propulsion Stack. Soviet experimental rocket assisted T-62 tank! The idea behind the rocket boosters was to give the T-62 tank the ability to rapidly cover short distances on the battlefield. This would have allowed the tank to quickly take up hull-down firing positions or escape from flanking maneuvers by enemy forces. The boosters were mounted on the rear of the tank and could propel it at speeds of up to 30 kilometers per hour (18 mph) for short bursts. The Forsvarsmateriell - Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency , issued recently a new Request for Information (#RFI) for a Long Range Precision Fire System (project 1095) to supply the Army with the ability to combat targets at long distances beyond what existing weapons platforms can manage today. According to Defense Beacon team information the estimated allocated budget for the program will be 1,5-2,5 mrd. kroner (up to 245 million USD) with deliveries stating from 2026. It should be noted that the Norwegian M-270 multiple-launch rocket systems (#MLRS) systems (with up to 80 km strike range) are phasing out and some of them (up to 8 systems plus 3 Arthur artillery location radars) were send as an aid for Ukraine. In June 2023, General Eirik Kristoffersen, Chief of Defense, pointed to the dramatic changes in the security landscape amid Russia’s full-scale war on Ukraine when he urges the Norwegian Government to add another 8 billion kroner (€680 million) annually to the defense budget for the years 2025 to 2031. First priority of the Norwegian army, is to strengthen already approved investments in long-range precision weapons to make a fully-fledged rocket artillery battalion with the Army’s brigade in Troms. The US Air Force has partnered with Canopy Aerospace to develop hypersonic missiles that use a transpiration cooling system, similar to human sweating, to prevent overheating and enhance speed. These missiles, flying at Mach 5, face extreme heat, making thermal protection essential. Canopy’s innovative system releases a fluid from the vehicle’s surface, creating an insulating barrier against heat. 🤩 MatrixSpace has won a $1.9-million contract to develop a base defense radar for the United States Air Force. The deal stipulates a solution based on the company‘s proprietary MatrixSpace Radar small form factor hardware. “This TACFI project addresses a core requirement in new force protection, which is providing an enhanced level of awareness in complex, challenging environments, quickly,” MatrixSpace Intelligent Systems VP Matthew Kling said. “A distributed radar sensor mesh has the ability to detect and identify previously undetected objects, making it essential for the new world of battlespace awareness. During the Eurosatory exhibition, German company Rheinmetall and American defence giant Lockheed Martin will unveil the Global Mobile Artillery Rocket System (GMARS). The GMARS has been designed to meet the increasing global demand for advanced long-range rocket artillery systems. According to Rheinmetall, this state-of-the-art system features a 2-pod launcher capable of firing the MLRS Family of Munitions (MFOM), delivering exceptional range and precision. The GMARS is compatible with various munitions, including the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) and the Extended Range GMLRS (ER GMLRS). Furthermore, the system can deploy the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) and the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM), boasting ranges of 300 km and over 400 km, respectively.
