💫 The way associations connect their members is evolving. You could argue that connecting members is the primary function and the very reason for a professional association’s existence. Associations typically connect their members only a few days a year, through physical events such as conferences. However, interaction and connection between members are abruptly cut off after the event (“See you next time!”). Consequently, member engagement also ends abruptly, which can reduce long-term involvement and commitment to the association. How are you engaging your members to interact in between events? 👉 Read more: https://buff.ly/4eOoyGd #associations #community #memberengagement

I'm super excited to say our group, The Future of Meetings, has helped design the virtual space for the Astronomical Society of Australia Annual Science Meeting this year! The space is extensive, with places to hang out and chat, exhibits to explore, and posters to examine. It's the first time we've designed a virtual space on this scale, and it's still new tech, so please have patience with the odd bust! All conference content will of course be also available on slack and zoom, but this is a place to meet, chill and discuss with astronomers from all around the country. The virtual space is cross-platform, and you can wander inside just from your web browser. Of course, if you have a VR headset, it's even more epic! Headsets could be something for universities to consider in the future? The cost is small compared to even domestic meetings.
It's great to see meetings that are promoting an online-first participation format. One of the positives of the pandemic-era was the improved accessibility of online conferences for people who normally find it difficult to attend in person (whether for reasons of cost, time, caring responsibility, disability, or because they want to keep carbon emissions down). The EMCR Forum hopes that organisations don't forget these benefits and are adventurous in trialing initiatives that lower participation barriers.

As I was diving down the community care #innovation rabbit hole, I was delighted to inadvertently stumble on positive feedback from the Home & Community Support Innovation Centre ❤️ on Big Eye Innovation's conference work. "One of the conference’s most dynamic features was the Lightening Lab Breakout Sessions." 😊 If you're wondering how to actively engage your delegates in a way that's dynamic, productive and gives people a great takeaway to use in their work, let's talk! #conferenceactivity #designthinking #conferenceexperience

Strategic, for-purpose business leader. Specialising in community-led development and resilience, impact driven results and organisational development.
#Placebased work in Australia and #locallyled development in #internationaldevelopment, can learn a lot from each other. Joining the Logan Together Community of Practice webinar yesterday was wonderful - honest, insightful, reflective. The webinar focused on what it takes for different actors working together, to truly shift the dial on Child Safety in the area. Some pearls of wisdom I heard about rebalancing power: - Common people for common cause: this does take courage and courage is hard because community has been viewed as the troublemakers! Build trust in the group so challenging conversations can happen. (Kenny Duke, community leader, mum, refugee) - There needs to be a long period for understanding and listening, and not getting defensive. (Kenny) - In the current model, the further away from the problem you are, the more power you have. That's never going to work. (Tracey Ryan, senior public servant) - Couldn't fit the community-led model into government program specs. So we have rewritten the specs - we aren't trying to make the model fit government. Government prepared to change to fit the community model. (Tracey) - Began to build shared understanding in circle and on country: what does loved and safe looks like for our children? Western way of child rearing is not the only way to grow children up well. (Debbie Miscamble, Logan First Nations governance body). - Led by a first nations group: Gathering cultural leaders, family, government and non-government on-country to hear truth and build trusted relationships was essential to having hard conversations and taking tough action together. (Debbie) - Data exchange is critical for growing trust both ways and for healing - not easy for the government to share data. Truth telling and healing is a priority. (Debbie). Many thanks to the speakers for your honesty and willingness to share. I hope I captured the essence in my paraphrasing here. I encourage anyone interested in locally led development to watch the video. https://lnkd.in/ghEZSZT2

Why limit your audience? 🌐 Embrace hybrid conferences to maximise reach, inclusivity, and profitability. Hybrid events ensure a broader audience by combining in-person and virtual participation, thus increasing engagement and potential revenue. In his article in the TES, William E. Donald emphasises that hybrid conferences are crucial for accessibility and inclusion, allowing disabled and marginalised scholars to participate. At Vievma, we specialise in creating engaging hybrid events that cater to all attendees. 📞 Partner with Vievma for your next inclusive and profitable event: https://buff.ly/3CpJfqa 📖 Read the article: Rejecting hybrid conferences reeks of ableism https://buff.ly/46c9IGj #HybridEvents #EventManagement #VirtualConferences #InclusiveEvents #ProfitIncrease #Vievma
