Bauer for having me on board. Our mission? To inspire young girls to explore careers in technology and engineering, showing them that they have the potential to excel in these fields and help break down societal stereotypes. In our camp, girls will dive into exciting programming courses, hands-on tech workshops, and enlightening sessions on mechanical engineering. We aim to open their eyes to the fascinating world of MINT (Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences, and Technology). Reflecting on my own experiences, the Children’s Business Week in Lower Austria was a pivotal moment in my childhood. It introduced me to various professions, including the book and media industry and entrepreneurship, shaping my future path significantly. This is why I passionately endorse the MINT Summer Camp. Last month I got to give a virtual talk at my alma mater, University of California, Berkeley, as a part of Association of Women in EE&CS. 👩🏻💻 🤩 🤓 It made me realize one of the things I miss most about college is the built-in ✨COMMUNITY✨ to connect with peers of similar goals and interests and learn from each other. The lineup of my peers was stellar and gave a variety of perspectives in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (EE/CS). Regardless of what walk of life each panelist came from—whether it was to go into industry, leave industry, become a professor, switch concentrations within academia—everyone emphasized: ⭐ Do the things that bring you joy even if they don’t fit in to what you think you “should” be doing. ⭐ Build community, build community, build community. For every panelist, these were the 2 key ingredients to finding career fulfillment regardless of career path. If you’re a woman in STEM, you may enjoy the work and career journeys of my fellow panelists: 🌟 Swetha Prabakaran : Pivoted from product management to explore entrepreneurship and dance 🌟 Carla Bassil : Pivoting from BioMed Eng to Business and now a PhD in EECS 🌟 Annie Ulichney : Loved studying MechE in undergrad, but knew she didn't want to do MechE in industry and pursued a Stats PhD 🌟 Dr. Lisa Yan: Associate Professor at UC Berkeley of the EECS department 🌟 Robin Netzorg : Went from majoring in linguistics in undergrad without internships to a PhD in EECS focusing on AI, human voice, and intersectionality with age, race, and accent. 🚨 "Are we steering girls into tech careers?" 🚨 I've heard this concern voiced here in Utah and it's especially disheartening when it comes from women. 👇 The report below highlights the significant talent that female students in Utah have for STEM-related careers, alongside their aptitude for various other fields. In a career exploration environment, shouldn't we be showing students as many options as possible for a successful future? Here's an example of how this kind of information can benefit students: One high school used aptitude data to invite female students with the talent for STEM to attend the Women Tech Council's SheTech event. Every student that was invited, accepted the invitation to explore. They spent the day at the event and this was the result: 💡 1/3 of the students were LIT UP and excited about what they experienced. 💭 1/3 of the students were interested in learning more. 🚫 1/3 of the students decided "not for me." Every one of those outcomes is valuable. Last year, YouScience studied over 500 recently graduated students and found that 57% of women reported not being exposed to a wide enough variety of career options (compared to 29% of male students). 🔦 Shining a light on the talents of females in Utah is not about steering them into tech careers. It is about showing them the multitude of options available for exploration - which is exactly what they need. https://lnkd.in/gBKxJ7kU

Today's impact story features Sophie, a 2023 TechGirl from the USA! In her story, Sophie talks about expanding her horizons and developing her confidence through the #TechGirls program. Sophie now runs projects that teach younger students about programming and the limitless opportunities that come with STEM. "My goal is to not only boost the members' confidence in their creative abilities, but also broaden their understanding of the technological world, which some may have found unfamiliar. I am confident that I can make a positive impact on our environment through my actions and motivation, inspiring me to take on greater challenges in the fields of science and technology." Inspiring Change in the Next Generation This week has been nothing short of extraordinary. I had the privilege of speaking to an incredible group of young women from the STEM Next Opportunity Fund Flight Crew, each representing their home state with pride and purpose. These brilliant teenage girls are on a transformative journey to dismantle stereotypes and ignite a passion for #STEM among their peers through active community engagement. Their energy was palpable, their determination unwavering. It was a room alive with potential, a testament to the power of young minds committed to making a difference. But the inspiration didn't stop there. Over 150,000 Out-of-School time professionals joined us, alongside numerous industry partners, all united in the vision of a more inclusive and diverse future in STEM fields. Reflecting on our journey, it's incredible to see how far we've come since Intel proudly became a founding member of the Million Girls Moonshot four years ago. Today, we celebrate a monumental milestone: over 5.2 million youth and 2.6 million girls have been exposed to the wonders of STEM, thanks to this initiative. This is more than just numbers; it's a narrative of change, of breaking barriers and envisioning a world where every girl has the opportunity to pursue her dreams in #science, #technology, #engineering, and #mathematics. Having lacked aptitude and career exposure as a girl, I understand the importance of early encouragement and guidance. Invitation: Share Your #STEM Journey with Aspiring Young Women I've mentioned previously that TrustThink has initiated a STEM Program with Academy of Our Lady of Peace (OLP) Academy in San Diego. OLP is an all-girls school, and also the oldest school in San Diego, CA. This effort is part of our commitment to inspire and prepare young women for STEM fields, equipping them for college and their future careers. Our first group of interns is already making significant progress, engaging in projects ranging from understanding quantum resistant cryptography to documenting threats associated with the intersection of cloud and automotive. However, practical experience is just one aspect of their development. We also want to expose them to the varied career paths in STEM, highlighting both opportunities and challenges. To this end, if you have insights or experiences you're willing to share with these students, I'd appreciate your involvement. A brief phone call / discussion on your career path could provide valuable perspective and inspiration to these aspiring professionals. 🎉 🎉 🎉 STEM+E Competition 2024 has just officially kicked off! STEM+E Competition 2024, organized by the STEM+E Consortium, co-organized by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited, and funded by the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Commission, received an enthusiastic response this year, receiving more than 180 students from 40 secondary schools signed up to participate in the event. This year's STEM+E competition carries the theme of " Make A Difference Creating a Social Impact with Tech Inventions & Innovations". Objective of the Competition is to inspire students to cultivate an entrepreneurial mentality and collaborative spirit.   Students will study and understand inventions and innovations of case companies, and under the guidance of start-up founders and coaches, formulate I&T strategies and plans to solve social pain points identified to create positive influence and establish correct values. Through participation in the Competition, students will establish correct attitudes and values so as well as acquire entrepreneurship skills to better cope with the needs of today's and tomorrow’s technology industry.   The STEM+E Competition 2024 kick off ceremony was held simultaneously online and offline last Saturday (24/2) at the Hong Kong Science Parks. Over 30 student ambassadors (“SA”) from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology facilitated the ceremony with various team-building activities to help participating students to get acquainted with each other, build rapport, and prepare for the upcoming competition. As in the previous years, by grouping students from different secondary into the same project teams, students can learn from each other and at the same time, practice to improve their interpersonal and communication skills.
