We recently hosted the first ever summit for our Strategic Policy Fellows at the Pentagon. These fellows represent the United States Air Force and United States Space Force across the Executive branch of government working on a range of prolific matters. This summit allowed the fellows to share their experience and missions of their respective agencies, what they’re working on, and they’re oberservations about DAF equities. We also had a chance to re-baseline everyone’s strategic understanding courtesy of our partners at CSAF Strategic Studies Group, Air Force Futures, and Space Force Strategic Initiatives Group. Chance Saltzman Chief of Space Operations, U.S. Space Force Center for a New American Security (CNAS) 18 Oct 2023 On Wednesday, October 18, from 1:30–2:30pm ET CNAS will host a fireside chat with General B. Chance Saltzman, Chief of Space Operations, United States Space Force, moderated by Dr. Stacie Pettyjohn, Senior Fellow and Director of the CNAS Defense Program. The conversation will explore the service's early successes and remaining challenges as it works to achieve its newly reframed mission: "to secure our nation's interests in, from, and to space." Discussion topics will include the Space Force's innovative personnel solutions, ambitious acquisition targets, and efforts to improve the resiliency of America's space assets.

I am glad to lend these models to help frame the future #spaceeconomy. Great job, MilkyWayEconomy team! Peter Garretson is correct that understanding both the blue and brown #space strategies will be critical to the development of spacepower, and the direction that budgets will flow for years to come. I add from an #economics point of view that regardless of the ultimate mix of blue and brown that defense adopts, it is becoming clear that the commercial #spaceindustry plans to proliferate both "down and up" to seize the ultimate economic high ground. In which case, the great debate of whether trade still follows the flag or vice versa continues. If you think these models are too optimistic or do not like the estimates, you can always look at this from CNSA's numbers with the CCP in 2019, calling on "establishing an Earth-Moon space economic zone by 2050 worth $10Trillion." If we were to substitute that figure and rerun the estimates from their point of view, the value and size of the blue space strategy would become even larger in an even shorter period. -GSP-
