🎍🐢*Longevity of leadership - Why is it so rare in the NHS?*🦉🌳 As part of my ongoing #Darzi fellowship musings I have come to wonder why is it that #NHSmanagement (at trust level especially but maybe at all levels?) changes so often? It did make me reflect on how clinicians, once they have a substantive job tend to stay on for longer but the management team (the board, not just the CEO) change so often? I am aware that this framing raises another question re clinician-manager vs non clinical manager but let’s leave that for another day …. One CEO I met said that the normal “Lifespan” of a CEO was 3-4 years in a NHS Trust. Ours is coming up to 6 at the moment and I really hope he stays on for a long while yet (pity he isn’t on LinkedIn in to hear it!). As part of the fellowship learning I looked at #highperforminghealthcaresystems such as Jönköping and indeed, longevity of leadership is a fundamental ingredient. How should we foster this in the NHS? What are we doing wrong? How can we do it better? Why do leaders move on so soon? I don’t have an answer but I would love to hear the thoughts of my more experienced peers here! 5️⃣ Executive Leadership Insights for Leaders of Every Level ... Yesterday, Mike Uchrin, CEO & Co-Founder of Monogram Health and Council Fellows 2016 alumnus, convened with healthcare leaders to share his insights on leadership, the unique and special business mentality in Nashville, how overcoming challenges can be the best for driving perspective and much more. 5 Key Leadership Insights: 1️⃣ Experience makes a bigger impact than the positions or titles you hold. Look for a role where you will garner the most experience - experience will propel your career. 2️⃣ The greatest learning happens when things don't go right - but don't allow those moments to define you. That is when you are able to create success, learn, and leverage that perspective as you move forward to grow and mature as a leader. 3️⃣ Be comfortable with who you are, whatever that means for you - understand it and embrace it. 4️⃣ Be deliberate about the culture you want to set and work on it daily. 5️⃣ When it comes to mentors, it is not necessarily singular- it is multiple different experiences. How can there learning and growth when there is denial? How can there be change when there is protection at all costs? How can we lead when so-called reputation comes before NHS values? How can the future of the NHS rely on the same? Compassion and empathy come first. #OurNHSPeople #Leadership

Things are dire, but the people in the healthcare system are incredible—resilient, competent, and skilled. 💜 👉 We can't change the system overnight, but we can control our efforts. Developing leadership skills can help us regain some control and make things better, even when it feels hopeless. For younger doctors, consider how you can lead—in your clinic, department, or community. Every small step counts. Leadership can be the antidote to burnout and hopelessness. Let's be part of the solution and feel empowered to make a difference. 💪🏥 #HealthcareHeroes #Leadership #BeTheChange #DoctorLife #PhysicianCoaching #PhysicianEducation

Through our NHS work across the country, we know that in-house teams sometimes need support to improve services and ways of working. Kingsgate’s public sector team is made up of former NHS executives, so we can provide coaching and leadership alongside programme development and delivery. This means NHS organisations can learn from what we do – leaving managers and clinicians better equipped to address financial challenges and operational pressures. #nhs #nhsleadership #CIP #nhsmanagers
