We got to meet Sandeep Dadlani the other day. Sandeep had been at Infosys for nearly 17 years, rising to be president, head of Americas, and head of the manufacturing, retail, CPG & logistics vertical. He was then chief digital officer at Mars, the $50-billion maker of pet food, and chocolates like M&M and Snickers, for five years. Two years ago, he joined the world’s largest healthcare company, #UnitedHealthGroup (#UHG), as chief digital & technology officer. UHG subsidiary Optum’s GCC in India is seen to be one of the fastest growing among GCCs. Sandeep told us he probably never had a more consequential job in a more consequential company, “because for the first time, I am helping, directly or indirectly, people live healthier lives.” He spoke about efforts to merge health insurance and healthcare in a way that makes healthcare providers focus on preventive care (like Narayana Health is trying to do here - a pilot is ongoing in Mysuru), and about the phenomenal work #Optum in India is doing towards transforming the US healthcare system. We have a story, based on a webinar we had in association with #IBM, on how important cybersecurity has become in the context of cloud and AI. Tushar Haralkar, Principal Pre-Sales Country Leader, Security Software, IBM India & South Asia Libesh K Babu, Associate VP, Federal Bank Mahen Gawade, Business Head – IAM, Inspira Enterprise India We have a summary of the first phase of the Technovate for India programme – in association with startup ecosystem builder #Talrop – in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana. In Chennai, Lakshmi Narayanan, former CEO of #Cognizant, spoke about the big effort around micro-credentials, and noted that even IIT Madras has begun a programme around these. In Bangalore, Aditya Mishra, MD & CEO of #CIEL HR, spoke about the methods of teaching that Dronacharya in Mahabharata employed, and said we need similar methods today in educational institutions – combining theory, with practical applications in different environments. In Hyderabad, Midhula Devabhaktuni narrated the fascinating story of how she and her husband Viswanadh Kandula returned from the US to India to found the electronics accessories brand #Mivi. Jones Joseph Ajeesh Satheesan Babu Padmanabhan, founder & chief knowledge officer at STEER World, writes about regenerative AI for a sustainable future. And, of course, we have Sunil Agarwal & Ian Baker’s superb cartoon :)

More IT companies in India are now appointing chief growth officers (CGO), Sameer Ranjan Bakshi reports for The Economic Times. Firms like Wipro, HCLTech, Tech Mahindra, LTIMindtree, Persistent Systems, and Xoriant, among others, have all appointed CGOs recently —a role at the crossroads of marketing, sales, and operations. Nachiket Deshpande, COO at LTIMindtree, says that successful transformation opportunities require collaborating with multiple players within the ecosystem. Cloud and AI are enhancing this need, and thus the mandate for a CGO has become important, he adds. This role was most prevalent in e-commerce startups before, the report says. But while the CGO role was fixed in startups with specific targets, it is broader in IT, says Anshuman Das, co-founder and CEO at Careernet and Longhouse Consulting. However, it is still related to revenue growth through offerings, partnerships, and expansion into new regions, he adds. With sustainable growth being a critical parameter for businesses, a CGO reports directly to the company’s CEO. Why are CGOs gaining prominence now? With the adoption of newer technologies gathering momentum, IT companies want to stay ahead of the curve by shaping the trend, rather than just participating in it, the report adds. Organisations are also looking to hire such talent to disrupt the traditional structural hierarchy, says Munira Loliwala, AVP - Strategy and Growth at TeamLease. India’s last 20 years of economic growth were fuelled by the IT Services boom led by giants like TCS and Infosys. This industry thrived on the premise of cost arbitrage, with a massive talent pool driving global projects. But the last 24 months, driven by Generative and Agentic AI, have made one thing clear: our edge of scale is at risk. The IT labor market is shifting rapidly, and cost arbitrage alone won’t cut it anymore. To stay ahead, India needs problem solvers, not just workers. Skilled minds ready to tackle complex tech challenges—not just routine tasks. That’s why we launched the Futurense Leadership Council, India’s only AI Industry & Academia think tank, bringing together 60+ AI leaders from Fortune 500 companies to reimagine the future of skilling and innovation in India. This Republic Day, we come together to spread one powerful message: India can and will win the AI race 🇮🇳 By focusing on advanced skilling and innovation, we can build a future where India leads the global AI revolution. Good point regarding IT services. There are multiple layers of any technology largely classified as 1) #Foundational: deals with how the technology operates. 2) #Applications : deals with how the technology is used Both these layers have very different coding structures and approaches . Indian IT companies are very familiar with the application layer which is what they have done all these years ie they have built their capabilities and businesses largely assuming 1) as a given hence have very little competency in it . With Generative AI the application 2) layer is getting automated so body shopping will become redundant which is where the biggest threat to Indian IT lies . Indian IT companies and their investors lack self belief and confidence to build layer 1) . Hence the challenge lies in getting those who made money on servers to invest in Deep tech 🤔 Raghav Gupta RK Narang

Unveiling the secret weapon behind a new wave of millionaires: ESOPs. Join me to uncover this wealth-generating phenomenon. #ESOPs #WealthGeneration Welcome to the new age of wealth generation, where Employee Stock Options (ESOPs) are revolutionizing the landscape. Consider the dawn of ESOPs in India, pioneered by Infosys. This pioneering initiative laid the foundation for widespread prosperity. Early advocates of ESOPs, including key figures from Infosys, became catalysts for a wave of financial success, enabling many individuals to retire early, take bold career risks, and even launch groundbreaking firms, thereby creating an unforeseen ripple effect of wealth. When giants like Microsoft, Google, Accenture, and Qualcomm entered the Indian market, they ignited the burgeoning start-up culture, particularly in Bangalore and Gurgaon. Fast forward to the present day. A clientele of young millionaires from thriving companies such as Flipkart, Swiggy, Automation Anywhere, Freshworks, and OYO is emerging. Looking to the future, the vision is clear: a wave of youthful billionaire founders and dollar millionaires, fueled by an array of promising startups maturing into unicorns and the generous ESOPs of large IT firms. India is on the brink of unprecedented wealth. Join in observing this exciting era unfold. How has the evolution of ESOPs impacted your career?

Few of the main reasons why China is ahead: 1) Chinese market opened up decades before India opened up.India was sleeping for about 6 good decades... 2) China has a Stable governement for decades (whether its good or bad). 3) Corruption is predictable in China unlike in India. You pay the ruling party and start the project. You dont know if opposition comes to power the next term, they might stop all earlier government projects (still happening in many states).. >> Corruption in China: Systematic & Predictable >> Corruption in India: Rampant & top to bottom 3) Government enforce lower pay in China to people and hence they have to work long hours to make some good money ( not because the public likes it!!!) 4) Industrialist like Sri Narayan Moorthy cannot make such statement like this against Chinese goverenment if in China.. 5) Finanical corruption (personal) in China will lead to imprisonment for life. But in India its free food and accommodation at tax payers expense.
Infosys co-founder N.R. Narayana Murthy, who earlier advocated for a 70-hour work week, said India is far behind China in becoming the world leader or manufacturing hub. While speaking at the ELCIA Tech Summit 2024, Murthy said, “These (hub, global leader) are all big words that we shouldn’t use. China has already become the factory of the world. Around 90% of things in supermarkets and at-home depots in other countries are manufactured in China. They have 6 times the GDP of India. It is too audacious of us to say India will become the manufacturing hub." He said the government plays a big role in the success of manufacturing, and it will be very difficult for India to become a leader unless the public governance system is improved. #india #china #manufacturing #business #technology #Indianstartupnews

Well said sir 👏, and this represents the facts. Given the right course of actions in the upcoming years to boost infrastructure to support logistics, and incentives for manufacturing, it would be a matter of years to change the perspective. Let's hope for right course of actions for "India - The Great Nation" #Infosys #India #manufacturing #gdp #nation #logistics

Listening to & reading the statements of so called Stalwarts of Corporate India heading huge MNC’s about Longer Work Days & Weeks, we can understand how Indian work ecosystem is shaped to create mere machines without subtlety and nuanced empathy towards humane needs of employees. These corporate companies are driving people towards becoming mechanical to the utmost and the same has been dissipated across generations with people running with more and more speed towards an unknown and vague goal called SUCCESS. #wakeupindia #mentalhealthmatters #lnt #infosys #worklifebalance
