The “Nightmare Before Christmas” is celebrating 30 years since its release and is a household favorite. But now it seems that Halloween really is becoming a second Christmas!
U.S. News & World Report (https://lnkd.in/enywWUDG) stated that 73% of Americans are planning to celebrate Halloween this year, the highest level in 18 years according to the National Retail Federation (NRF). The NRF anticipates that Halloween spending will exceed $12 billion in 2023, half of that spent on costumes and the rest towards candy, decorations, and household items.
Besides more holiday consumption and marketing efforts, there’s just more Halloween lately. Houses are being decorated with strings of purple and orange lights, organizations are throwing Trunk or Treat parties in parking lots and other public spaces, and even down to the controversial Switch Witch, this year Halloween has gone into overdrive! (More on this trend here - https://lnkd.in/eFDtKZQJ)
Are people just looking for a respite from the seemingly endless stream of bad news? Or is it the invisible hand of market forces trying to turn it Christmas sized with a different color scheme? It may be both, or a completely different reason entirely. Time will tell if 2023 reaches peak Halloween celebration saturation, or if it will plateau/lose interest in coming years.
