Technology is hurting the hiring process. Of course, yes, this is just my opinion. And, honestly, I don’t think that’ll remain the case. It will streamline... eventually. On the candidate side, technology is *huge*. ✅we have easy apply. ✅systems have AI readily available for resumes and cover letters, organization and ability to tailor to the job description. ✅we have sites that do the application for you. ✅we have technology that will do it all - update your resume and cover letter to fit the job, then apply with a simple click. These things are *awesome*! And candidates should definitely utilize what’s available. (psst, others are.) But the problem is that it’s off-balance. Because it's very limited on the hiring side of things. Hiring teams are using tech that has was quickly outdated. Break it down: ➡ Companies invested $$$ into expensive ATS technology that is not much more than a filing cabinet (even if you believe it has magical power). ➡ Most recruiters don't even have a CRM to stay organized (can you say ghosting). ➡ Some still use an excel spreadsheet to track the candidates throughout the process (yes, really). This leads to: ⏩ an outlandish number of applications ⏩ sitting in a file cabinet ⏩ waiting for a human to go through them one by one. ⏩ and less humans to do it due to layoffs. This leads to: ⏭disorganization ⏭and inefficiencies ⏭leading to ghosting ⏭grumpy recruiters ⏭and an all-around terrible candidate experience. We need to get it evened out.
