Do you qualify for the high end of a salary range? Probably not, says new data: A new report from Glassdoor finds that new hires are actually more likely to be offered a lower salary than they expect—regardless of what the job listing says. As more companies have started posting job listings with pay ranges—in part due to state laws mandating some measure of pay transparency—many job seekers are now armed with more information when they enter into salary negotiations. http://dlvr.it/TDs96Z

As a recruiter, I always ask "what are your salary expectations?" The reason? Easy! ⬇️ 1. Regardless of how well a candidate aligns with the position, if their current compensation significantly exceeds the salary I can offer, it leads to an inefficient use of time for both parties involved. 2. It is important to consider that a candidate's current salary may not accurately reflect their market value, especially if they have remained in the same position for an extended period without a salary review. For instance, a candidate earning 50,000 may discover that similar roles in the industry are offering 80,000 or more, highlighting the potential for a significant discrepancy in compensation.

Did you know that you can negotiate your salary by using data? Yes, you read that right. Data can be a powerful tool during salary negotiations. When candidates and clients come to me requesting salary advice, I always advise them to ensure you have the correct market data when starting those awkward salary negotiation conversations. So, how do you determine your worth💰? ▶️Start by researching market trends. You can do this quite simply by popping your job title or similar job titles into a search engine and linkedin. Try and find several similar roles as it will at weight to your research. ▶️What are companies in your industry paying for someone with your skills and experience? Make sure they are in the same location. Salaries in London are not comparable to the home counties. Industry salaries can vary significantly, hence, make sure your research is centred around your industry. Remember, it's not just about what you need or what salary you want - It's about what's fair and competitive in the market. So, the next time you're preparing to negotiate your salary, don't forget to bring data to the table. It could be the difference between getting what you want and settling for less. #hrjobs #salarynegotiation #salaryadvice #humanresources
