LOWER BODY STRENGTH AND POWER PROFILES OF NATIONALLY CATEGORISED AUSTRALIAN SURFERS Author: Hannah Walker In 2020 surfing was introduced at the Olympics, propelling surfing into a new era of professionalism. This resulted in increased investment and physical performance support for World Championship Tour (WCT), World Challenger Series (WCS) and the World Qualifying/Pro Junior Series (WQPJ) surfers. Since this time no data has been published on the physical capacities of competitive surfers. The aim of this study was to report current lower body strength and power profiles across WCT, WCS and WQPJ tier surfers, identifying performance gaps across the pathway and providing a resource for talent identification. 🔗https://lnkd.in/g9kSmbbW

Did you know that fins on a surfboard are an essential part of surfing? In many ways, sheet waves fall short of providing a true surf experience - including the ability to use real, finned surfboards. But why is surfing with fins important? In a deep water wave, like EpicSurf, fins allow the surfer better stability, control, and direction of the surfboard, allowing them to practice real surf techniques and skills such as cutting and carving through the water. It's not always perfect! But it can always be fun! If you take the right equipment. I love to jump on a high performance shortboard and push my surfing to as far as I can take it. Faster snaps, more spray off the lip, getting as far on rail as possible. Sometimes though, conditions don't allow it. So I grab a different weapon of choice, doesn't matter what, just as long as I know it will allow me to have more fun. How do you keep surfing fun? #surfcoachdevelopment #surfacademyuk #surfmindset #surfstrengthandconditioning #surfretreats #surfcoaching #surffitness #surfdevelopment #surftraining

How can professional surfing become more environmentally responsible? Some inspiration to get the ball rolling: - Transitioning to eco-friendly materials for surfboards and equipment with a deadline date for changes to made? (e.g. low-impact surfboards to be used by all athletes by the start of the 2025 season). - A limit to how many surfboards athletes can compete with? (similar to F1 racing with a limit to engines and parts over a race weekend). - Zero-waste policies and renewable energy sources to power competitions and events? - Encouraging surfers (or incentivising them) to engage in a minimum number of hours of positive environmental outreach? (similar to soccer clubs/players with their community outreach programs and minimum requirements for team players to engage with the wider community).
