In our American College of Perioperative Medicine (ACPM) Insight of the Week 💡 we report that consistent surgical teams are essential for optimizing the operations of operating rooms. That said, it’s difficult to achieve in smaller organizations. The NEJM Catalyst published an article that found higher team consistency scores are significantly associated with decreased time to first incision, surgery duration, and operating room turnover time for both total hip and total knee arthroplasty procedures. These findings once again indicate that whenever possible, the same teams should be used! In a recent retrospective analysis we explored the relationship between Patient Reported Outcomes Measures (PROMs) and daily step-count collected via smartphone in total hip arthroplasty journeys. The results showed that higher daily step-counts were associated with improved PROMs scores. Furthermore, the data showed higher daily step-counts were recorded by males, younger, and low BMI patients post-operatively. This study helps show how passive data collection through remote patient monitoring can be used alongside traditional PROMs to provide a more comprehensive view of patient progress. By utilising advanced data analytics within our CorinConnect™ surgeon portal, we help surgeon partners further their clinical research, which may improve surgical outcomes for future patients. 🕒 Early intervention is extremely important! Immediate medical attention is required for hip fractures, especially in older people. In order to improve results, minimize complications, and fasten recovery, treating these fractures within 24-48 hours is vital. Why Early Treatment Matters: - Better Outcomes: Patients who are immediately treated have lower mortality rates than those delayed. - Reduced Complications: The chances of having blood clots, pneumonia or pressure sores will reduce when surgery is done early. - Faster Recovery: It facilitates shorter hospital stays and faster return to daily activities that enhance quality of life in general. Key Milestones: - Injury occurs : Medical intervention must be immediate. - Within 24 Hours: Initial screen and surgical preparation. - 24-48 Hours: Surgical fixing or replacing a hip - Post-Surgery (48+ Hours): Rehabilitation starts with early mobilization and physical therapy. Stay informed, stay healthy, and prioritize early treatment for hip fractures! 💪 #HipFracture #HealthAwareness #EarlyTreatment #ElderlyCare #Orthopedics #RecoveryJourney #siwachsanjeevani

Cognitive dysfunction after surgery and anesthesia has been a recognized issue for decades, but understanding why certain patients are at risk for this complication is still largely unknown. However, advanced age has consistently been identified as a risk factor for the development of postoperative cognitive disfunction. Is EMR fatigue real? Dr. Michael Ast , orthopedic surgeon and Ospitek Inc. Chief Medical Officer, discusses the real-world challenges of #EMR fatigue in surgical environments. Ospitek is distinguished by its intuitive and scalable design, addressing EMR fatigue by allowing surgical teams and administrators to eliminate redundancies, streamline processes, and to start using the Ospitek platform in days, not months. Interoperable with legacy systems as needed, Ospitek optimizes operational efficiency, surgical team coordination, and stakeholder communication, countering the inefficiencies often found in current health IT solutions. Addressing these challenges, the Ospitek platform uniquely syncs with the patient’s physical movements. This synchronization empowers surgical teams with LIVE insights into patient journey progress and status, streamlining both patient flow and operating room management. Did you know that in the original Hippocratic Oath from around 400 BC, physicians swore by Apollo the healer to do what’s best for patients and improve the quality of medical care? In the original oath, medicine is commonly referenced as an art. “But I will keep pure and holy both my life and my art. I will not use the knife, not even, verily, on sufferers from stone, but I will give place to such as are craftsmen therein.” In the modern day operating room, I find that while there is still some art present in medicine, there is a force driving us towards science. 2400 years later, multiple adaptions of the Hippocratic Oath are still used by the world medical association and many medical schools, but the oath has been modernized in many ways. While the message to do what’s best for one’s patients and impove medicine remains at its core, you’ll find that the word “art” has been eliminated. … There are two reason I reference the history of the Hippocratic Oath as we reflect on a successful limited market release and celebrate the worldwide launch of ApolloKnee. 1. I believe that ApolloKnee helps brings us closer to an objectively and scientifically better knee replacement with personalized dynamic balance. 2. I believe that we have a collective responsibility to capture intraoperative data and share our insights to improve healthcare. https://lnkd.in/eVbWry8y https://lnkd.in/e4jtMJwa
