When San Antonio Spurs point guard Tre Jones learned of his mother Debbie’s breast cancer diagnosis in 2019, he was still a student at Duke University. “It was tough,” Tre admitted. “Being away at college and not being by her side for that definitely hurt.” Tre and his family and friends supported Debbie through her treatment and recovery and now he is continuing to honor her through a partnership with Komen. Read more about Tre and Debbie’s story in this piece from Sports Illustrated. https://bit.ly/3WohWrJ

Perhaps O.J. isn't the best example, but it does spotlight the importance of early detection for a cancer, that if caught in an early stage, is survivable. All guys over 40, especially guys that are most at-risk, should get an annual screening for prostate cancer. #menshealthawareness #prostatecancer #earlydetection #prevention

Founder of The Hobbs Consultancy. We work with organisations to co-create sustainable cultural change.
Two quick things on the Kate Middleton / Princess of Wales story as you start your week: 1) The story could be very triggering for those that are themselves suffering with cancer - whether themselves, their families, their friends. My Mum died from cancer a few weeks ago and the story has sent me in to a complete spin this weekend. Look out for people. Perhaps even send them a quick note to say you're thinking of them. The news is a lot. 2) On a leadership level, what I find really interesting is about how we, as human beings, are wired for story. If you give people a few limited data points, we will all naturally start to fill in the gaps in to a narrative that makes sense for us. This is relevant for those managing change in organisations. The more transparency you are able to give, the less likely people will be making up stories about what is happening. (Ultimately it sounds like Kate prioritised the comms to her family over the comms to the public - fair play).

Here's an inspiring part of my message given last weekend at the Isla Mae Summer Retreat in Jacksonville, FL. I love peaking to women who are overcoming a variety of challenges in life. I am so grateful for the opportunity to minister while living with cancer. Here are some reflection questions that went with this portion of my talk: We’re so focused on the future that we don’t realize that today was what we prayed for years ago. What did you wish for as a little girl when you pictured your future? What was your 10-year plan when you were 25? How have things turned out? What do you want to happen in the next 20 years?? How are you investing your time while you wait for your prayers to be answered?

I had the privilege of meeting up with Richard Averitte, an executive director for the American Cancer Society, and it got me thinking... Two of my goals in business are the same goals I had when I was going through cancer: 1. Stay alive. 2. Don't be a jerk. So, that's my encouragement for you today, especially if you're working to grow a business during tough economic times such as these: Stay alive and don't be a jerk. #businessgrowth

Empowering Audiences to Find A Way Every Day | Keynote Inspirational Speaker, Leadership Speaker | Head trauma, and Mental Health advocate
It's been quite a journey since the summer of 2003 when I found myself in a chemotherapy chair, battling cancer. But today, I stand before you, not just as a survivor, but as a beacon of hope and resilience. During those challenging times, my dear friend Charley Lavalle did something extraordinary. He hired a film crew to document one of my chemotherapy sessions and asked me a series of questions that led to a powerful revelation. I shared how the words "Find A Way" had not only helped me realize my dreams but were now guiding me through the fight for my life. Charley's challenge to write a book about "Find a Way" and share it with the world was a pivotal moment. My response was simple: "Charley, if I survive cancer, I will write that book and share that message." Well, I did survive cancer, and today, my passion is to share the "Find A Way" philosophy to help others discover their own path in life. I am thrilled to announce that I am now booking 2024 speaking engagements to share the power of "Find A Way." Whether it's in a corporate setting, at a conference, or any event where inspiration and motivation are needed, I'm here to empower your team to overcome challenges and achieve their goals. If you believe in the power of resilience, determination, and finding a way to overcome obstacles, let's connect and discuss how I can inspire and motivate your team to reach new heights. Together, we can make the impossible possible. Click here to learn more: https://lnkd.in/ez8ZCPE Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey so far. I can't wait to connect with more amazing individuals and organizations and help them Find A Way to success! #FindAWayEveryday
