5 Interview Questions you MUST ask creators you are looking to hire to run your social media accounts. For context, I've hired and worked with over a dozen creators to create organic social media content for brands (mostly AI SaaS) and have generated over 100M organic impressions. 1. What content styles worked well for your own account? - You want to see that they think critically about content, and not just "go with the flow". 2. You are creating content, and it’s all stuck at 250 views, what do you do? - Similar to the first question, you want to make sure that the creator can think critically about content. There is no right answer here, but an ideal answer is that they will test out different formats and content angles. 3. What is your background in this industry/niche? A: It's VERY important to hire a creator who understands the target audience, else they wouldn't know how to make compelling content. 4. What other commitments do you currently have? This is roughly a ~10 hr per week job (Assuming they post 20 videos a month) - Check for commitment. Funny enough, creators can sometimes underestimate how much time it takes to brainstorm, film, edit, and post content. Especially if it isn't for their own personal brand. 5. We are looking for someone who is going to take this seriously and stick around for the long-term, at least 4-6 months if everything goes well. Is that something you are able to commit to? - It's a lot of work to re-hire and re-build an account with a new face, so ideally you work with a single creator for at least 4-6 months. Unpopular opinion on copywriting assignments I have lost count of the assignments I’ve completed just to land one job. Some of my assignments were indeed used in campaigns without my knowledge, which I discovered later… While others helped me make a mark! I’m glad that a few people are now breaking the cycle and introducing assignments that focus on measuring creative ability rather than exploiting creative output. But I know that no matter how refined your portfolio is, and no matter your position, You will always have to complete some sort of assignment to prove your mettle. Creativity is subjective. And organizations have different creative cultures. So, it’s best to give them a piece of what you can do in your own style. Question: What’s the hiring process in your industry? For instance, you can decide the precise skills and experience level needed to achieve a particular content marketing goal. 2️⃣ Portfolios Over Resumes: While resumes are important, portfolios show candidates' practical knowledge and experience handling tasks.
