Today, we would like to provide more details about the mission and goals of the International Sustainable Academy! We understand that education is more than just imparting knowledge; therefore, our aim is to foster thinking that considers environmental issues, social justice, and economic viability. 🎓 ISA educational courses provide knowledge and skills to address complex problems on a global scale, such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and environmental issues. We recognize the importance of sustainability, resilience, and human-centric principles for entrepreneurs intending to enter international markets. Taking into account the perspective of the authors of the 2018 Report to the Club of Rome, education is a covenant between society and the future. We encourage the development of future literacy - the ability to face challenges and uncertainties to engage with the future. ✅ Join us and become part of a community that cultivates future literacy and seeks ways to address current challenges! #education #isa #sustainability #course #practice #future #development #knowledge

🤔 – In order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), education plays an important role, along with the union of citizens, businesses, and governments –. These were my reflections after finishing the first week of the Designing Future Economies Seminar organized by Hochschule für nachhaltige Entwicklung Eberswalde. This year, the seminar is comprised of a multidisciplinary group of students from Cuba, Germany, Ecuador, Peru, and Vietnam. As students, we shared our thoughts about the SDGs and the future of the economy ➡️🌿 The thing is, we need to innovate and build a new model to be more sustainable with the environment. As Buckminster Fuller once said, ‘You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.’ We hope to gain more experience on these topics after the seminar and share it with our classmates and the rest of society 🤓 Universidad Central "Marta Abreu" de Las Villas, Thai Nguyen University of Economics and Business Administration, DAAD Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst

Chief Global Affairs Officer, Times Higher Education (THE). Director General, Education World Forum. Creator of the World Academic Summit and convenor of the Global Sustainable Development Congress.
Universities are vital to delivering the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: they nurture the next generation of skilled, sustainable citizens and prepare our future leaders. They make the breakthrough discoveries we need to tackle the world’s biggest challenges. They transfer their knowledge and ideas from their lecture rooms and laboratories into society through collaborations with governments and businesses. But data from Times Higher Education shows that governments are failing to fully harness the extraordinary power within the world’s universities to help us meet the #SDGs. This was the key message of my presentation in Westminster today at the Education World Forum, the world's largest gathering of education ministers, where I presented a three-point plan, developed by my colleague Duncan Ross, for better university-government engagement: 1. More incentives and funding for research targetted at delivering the SDGs 2. Empower universities to drive #SDG17 - "partnerships for the goals" - as knowledge and research transcends borders and universities build bridges. 3. Follow university-led evidence-based policy, and avoid policy-based evidence! You can read more about the challenge, and the great opportunity, in my blog for the World Economic Forum here: https://lnkd.in/eDdVpV9x It was wonderful to present in today's opening plenary of #EWF24 alongside the inspirational Luis Benveniste of the The World Bank and Obiageli “Oby” Ezekwesili of Human Capital Africa. Thank you Phil Baty! Let's look at these elements in order: 1 - More incentives and funding for research targetted at delivering the SDGs This seems fairly obvious. But what do we mean, and why is this such a problem? Let's look at the current situation: we clearly aren't delivering on the SDGs, and part of the problem is how we can get our universities - the engines of research - firing on all cylinders. We should recognise that this needs incentivising, and also rebalancing. Not all SDGs see the same level of research. Looking at Scopus (and if you look at Web of Science you will see a very similar picture - in fact choose the bibliometric source of your choice!) SDG 3: Good Health and Wellbeing has millions of publications. SDG 1: No Poverty has less than 100,000. And yet you can't imagine solving problems around health without tackling issues around poverty. So we need incentives and funding across all of the SDGs. We also need incentives and funding that help people to work in an interdisciplinary way. The SDGs are inevitably interdisciplinary, and as SDG 17 reminds us - they also interact with each other. Universities are genuinely trying to become more interdisciplinary, but it's not easy. And finally, on point 1, we need to make sure we are actually delivering positive change through this research. That means making sure we are measuring the impact of our research and our practice, designing and delivering it with (and not just for) the people it will affect.

Continuing to expand on Phil Baty's points: 2. Empower universities to drive #SDG17 - "partnerships for the goals" - as knowledge and research transcends borders and universities build bridges. Universities have - for centuries - been a mechanism for preserving and transmitting ideas across the world. Now, more than ever, we need higher education to step forward and be part of the glue that holds us together. We know that climate change won't respect international borders, and it's vital that our solutions don't either. Universities are good at partnerships, but they need support and they need to make sure that those partnerships are effective, and that they are broad. Expanding from pure research partnerships to including students (and potentially communities) will help to ensure that these are meaningful and deep. We also need to ensure that there is equity in partnerships, especially between the global north and the global south. SDG 17 is a reminder that we need to work smarter and in a more cooperative way than we sometimes do. Competition is great when it spurs us to do more, but it shouldn't distract us from ensuring that we drive towards real, equitable impact. And looking at one of the targets that doesn't get enough attention: universities can help governments work towards better coherence in their policies - educating leaders and delivering insight and guidance.
