My heart project SuSyPhos (short for: Sustainable Synthesis and Recycling of Phosphorus-containing Materials in Lithium-Ion Batteries) has already started. Together with FH Münster, Fraunhofer-Einrichtung Forschungsfertigung Batteriezelle FFB, the Institute of Business Administration at the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy (IfbM) of the Universität Münster, Betebe GmbH and Technologieförderung Münster GmbH TFM as associated partner, MEET Battery Research Center will be investigating the use of phosphate from sources such as wastewater or agricultural residues to produce sustainable lithium iron phosphate for lithium-ion batteries over the next three years. The consortium is investigating the entire supply chain of the raw material, from recycling of the phosphate up to its processing and its use in batteries. The project is being funded with around 2.5 million euros through the “GreenEconomy.IN.NRW” of the innovation competition. The Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the European Regional Development EFRE/JTF in NRW provide equal amounts of funding. 🇪🇺 EFRE/JTF in NRW #efrenrw #EUinmyRegion Read more: https://lnkd.in/eyAxfXNM

We were delighted to host the REPOXYBLE project 24 month project review at our Newport (UK) site last week, showcasing our R&D and manufacturing capabilities to consortium partners. 🧑🤝🧑 This is a 3 year EU Horizon-funded project with the aim of creating fully chemically recyclable bio-based epoxy composites, and Gurit is responsible for developing the bio-based resin chemistry and for scaling the unique recyclable hardeners. ♻️ We're excited about the progress being made and that we're doing it alongside companies who are just as passionate as us about developing sustainable end-of-life options for our customers. #Sustainability #CompositeMaterials

We are pleased to share #PANGEA project video! PANGEA project proposes new bioelectrochemical systems for the bio-electro conversion of carbon dioxide into sustainable products, such as ethanol, buthanol or valeric acid. It addresses two challenges: renewable energies and decarbonization. Research deals with the selection of anaerobic microorganisms as biocatalysers, and the implementation of online control system for process optimization. PANGEA is funded by Spanish Research Agency AGENCIA ESTATAL DE INVESTIGACIÓN under "Proyectos de Generación de Conocimiento" programme (Reference: PID2021-126240OB-I00). The project brings together the expertise of gEMM and LEQUIA research groups of Universitat de Girona. Nordic Bioplastics conference : Microplastic free solution for infill. The case of bio-based polymers versus the alternatives. It was a pleasure to give a presentation to the audience of industrial experts who convened at the Nordic Bioplastics Conference in Copenhagen on April 12th. The Next Generation Infill BioFlex -Eco was introduced to the attendees at the conference, as an example of the trend towards the application of sustainable materials. BioFlex- Eco is a sand-based infill, that is coated with a tailored bio-degradable polymer, not being a microplastic, and is complying fully with the new REACH microplastic regulations. It is a non-spreading, non-floating infill based on a renewable feed stock. It is used in turf systems that meet FIFA Quality and Quality-pro standards sold by Unisport- Saltex. Subsequently I was able to discuss how packaging materials can be compared, looking at waste removal fees, current and future CO2-tax , litter(SUP) tax, penalty on non-recycled content and current material price, all totalised, as experienced by the value chain. A new look on material price evolution without a bias for bio nor fossil based, with some surprising losers and winners. Thank you Rasmus Grusgaard ,Louis Burnett Borggaard and the Team of the Danish Plastics Federation for hosting this very informative event at Industriens Hus.

Freepoint Eco-Systems Belgium NV is planning to build an 80,000 tonne/year pyrolysis-based #chemicalrecycling plant in Ghent, #Belgium, the company announced in a press release. The plant will use mixed plastic waste diverted from incineration as an input, although there were no further details of the grade of mixed plastic waste that will be used. It will be situated at North Sea Port’s Kluizendok site, following the signing of a long-term concession agreement between the two companies for the development. Construction on the site will not begin until the permitting process is completed, which is expected in 2025. Freepoint Eco-Systems is currently engaged in feedstock sourcing and financial planning for the site. The plot at North Sea Port is large enough to potentially expand the capacity to 160,000 tonnes/year. Freepoint Eco-Systems has several ongoing pyrolysis-based chemical recycling projects at various stages of development in the #US, where it has also recently signed an offtake agreement with Dow. This is its first project announced in #Europe, but according to the press release, the company is currently developing several European #projects. #ICIS #FreepointEcoSystems #chemicalrecycling #Europe #Belgium #project https://lnkd.in/er99EvW6

ICL approaching to close another loop for Bromine✨️ After successfully demonstrating continuous production of PS Loop B.V., the medium scale demonstration plant based in Terneuzen (NL), Richard Geevers, the CEO of PS Loop, has handed hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) sludge to ICL Industrial Products Terneuzen General Manager, Frank Kloek. PSLoop is designed to prove that the proprietary solvent-based recycling technology could successfully remove the legacy flame retardant HBCD from Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) construction waste. With the receival of the permit that allows to treat HBCD sludge in the Bromine Recovery Unit at ICL-IP Terneuzen, safe destruction of the removed HBCD will be executed to reuse the recovered bromine in the production of sustainable polymeric Flame Retardants. This technology, which is in line with the European POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants) regulation, has already been included in Basel Convention Technical Guideline under UNEP Basel Convention as best available, proven destruction and recovery technology for HBCD containing waste. This development brings ICL closer to more value chain collaborations in dealing with the recycling of among others building and construction waste as well as replications throughout Europe. Furthermore, an article of the interview with Sustainability Director and initiator PSLoop, Lein Tange and Managing Director, Vincent Brugge talking about #innovations and #sustainability activities at ICL Europe, is published in “Het Financieele Dagblad”.
