🗣️💭FEEDBACK! 💭🗣️ We've had a bit of feedback from our Sustainable Hotel Exchange: DEI Matters from Susan Norwood – "I really enjoyed the interactive format between the speakers, it kept it moving, and vibrant." "I would always say I find it off putting when people speak in initials, or jargon without first stating its meaning as this assumes expertise or only speaking to the specific industry." "I was reminded of the film "Maid in Manhattan", which although may seem trite, felt to be a rom com illustration of some of the points made in hotel staff and equality. Maid in Manhattan, is really relevant because not only does the hotel look to hold her back but also her mother's expectations, low expectations of what she may achieve. I have worked with many vulnerable groups prior to property and something we forget is that we cannot assume aspiration, this is something sometimes that needs to be taught with real role models. Sometimes people remain stuck in their role because they do not believe there is a choice." "Disability was mentioned in marketing, and I felt at the very least that hiring disabled people is critical in beginning to address inclusivity. " "If staff are diverse the welcome has the opportunity to be wider and more inclusive, by utilising staff knowledge on how to make guests feel welcome, or what some rooms may require." "Women not progressing was covered and as a speaker said the shift system should be able to accommodate any specific requirements." "I hate computer check-ins. I go to hotels for people and a human welcome, the reception desk is critical for myself. I usually travel on my own and need to feel safe." ☀️Thank you Susan - we've taken onboard the comments about acronyms - always our intention to keep things as accessible as possible and to make sustainability for those just starting out not seem like a lot of jargon so will keep this in mind of the next one!☀️ If you missed the webinar you can listen to the webinar for free - just enter the password in this news story.

And YOU, ARE YOU INCLUSIVE? The main benefit and key factor of making a hotel accessible is inclusion. By prioritizing accessibility, hotels ensure that all individuals, regardless of their physical abilities or specific needs, can enjoy a hospitality experience without barriers. This not only meets ethical standards but also has a significant impact on various aspects: Expansion of Customer Base: Making a hotel accessible attracts a broader customer base, including people with disabilities and their families. This opens up new business opportunities and expands the hotel's potential audience. Reputation and Differentiation: Accessibility reinforces the hotel's reputation as an inclusive and respectful establishment. It becomes a positive differentiator, highlighting the hotel in a competitive market and generating preference among accessibility-conscious consumers. Intertek Cristal's guest experience improvement service is like building a bridge that connects hotels with a wider group of travelers. This bridge not only complies with accessibility regulations but goes beyond, creating a solid and welcoming path for all guests, regardless of their individual need. 🌍 Shaping the Future: Embracing Social Responsibility in Hospitality 🏨✨ The hospitality industry isn't just about providing a place to stay—it's about making a positive impact on society and the environment. The social responsibility trend in hospitality is all about embracing ethical and sustainable practices, and here's why it matters: 🤝 Community Engagement and Support: Hospitality businesses are stepping up to the plate, actively engaging with local communities and supporting social initiatives to address local needs. From partnering with nonprofits to investing in education and infrastructure, hotels are making a tangible difference in the lives of those they serve. 🎨 Cultural Preservation and Respect: Cultural heritage is precious, and hotels and resorts are committed to preserving and respecting it. By promoting local traditions, crafts, and cuisine, and collaborating with indigenous communities, hospitality businesses are safeguarding cultural identity and heritage for generations to come. 🌿 Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability: It's no secret that the planet needs our help, and hotels are answering the call. From energy and water conservation to waste reduction and sustainable sourcing, hotels are leading the charge towards a greener, more sustainable future. 💼 Fair Labor Practices and Employee Well-being: Happy employees make for happy guests, and hotels are prioritizing the well-being of their staff. By offering fair wages, benefits, and opportunities for professional development, hotels are fostering a culture of respect and support for their most valuable asset—their people. 🔄 Ethical Supply Chain Management: Hotels are taking a closer look at their supply chains, ensuring that products and services are sourced ethically and responsibly. By vetting suppliers and promoting fair labour practices and environmental standards, hotels are making a positive impact from top to bottom. 🔍 Transparency and Accountability: Socially responsible hotels aren't just talking the talk—they're walking the walk. By being transparent about their practices and accountable for their impact, hotels are building trust and credibility with guests, employees, and local communities alike. The social responsibility trend in hospitality isn't just a passing fad—it's a commitment to creating a better world for everyone. By embracing ethical business practices, environmental stewardship, and community engagement, hotels and resorts can make a meaningful difference and shape a more sustainable and equitable future for all. 🌟🌱 #SocialResponsibility #HospitalityTrends #EthicalBusiness #Sustainability #LinkedInCommunity

In the heart of the same bustling city, we delve into the stories of two sustainability managers, whom we'll refer to as Alice and Eva for privacy purposes, employed at two rival hotels with similar salaries. Their paths, however, took distinctly different turns. Alice, with her innovative and strategic approach, not only achieved an impressive 11% reduction in operating costs but also adeptly utilised their sustainability efforts to make her hotel appealing to a new market of eco-conscious guests. This transformation resulted in a significant increase in bookings, soaring by 18% from the 6th to the 18th month of her tenure. Conversely, Eva encountered notable obstacles. Despite her earnest efforts, she struggled to implement impactful sustainability initiatives, leading to no noticeable progress in cost savings or the hotel's appeal to eco-conscious guests. This stark contrast between Alice and Eva's experiences underscores the crucial attributes necessary for a successful Sustainability Manager. Drawing inspiration from Alice's accomplishments and lessons from Eva's setbacks, we've distilled these qualities into key insights. Explore what distinguishes an effective Sustainability Manager in driving change and fostering growth in our latest article: "Qualities of a Great Sustainability Manager. #Sustainability #SustainableHospitality #Hotels #Hospitality
