📢 ✨✨✨EXCLUSIVE:✨✨✨📢 HRS's State of Sustainability in Corporate Travel report lands today and we have the exclusive interview with Fabio Fornari product manager for Sustainability HRS Group to talk about the results from the Green Stay Initiative database. Key findings include: 🔎 Contrary to the common sense that sustainability comes with a premium, the Green Stay database shows that, on average, the 25 per cent most efficient hotels within Green Stay have offered ADRs 17 per cent cheaper than the 25 per cent most polluting hotels. 🔎 Scope 3 emissions are responsible for up to 80 per cent of a corporate carbon footprint, with hotels accounting for 30 per cent of the emissions of an average business trip. 🔎 An increase in sustainable hotel bookings with 35 per cent more room nights in Green Stay hotels in 2024 vs 2023. In fact, 53 per cent of all room nights are in Green Stay hotels in 2024. 🔎 36 per cent of buyers say they do not know what methodology their company is using to calculate and report carbon emissions. 🔎 GSI hotels succeeded at winning 22 per cent more RFP’s than non Green Stay Initiative hotels for 2024 programmes and this year they are projected to see a further 17 per cent increase in room nights booked. 🔎 “We are monitoring [Travalyst’s] efforts to see if it makes sense to also validate hotel certifications against their list. This is why HRS joined the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and will start engaging more in this type of discussion moving forward,” said Fornari. When we talk about alignment in sustainable hotels it needs to be followed up with action and Travalyst has taken a big step towards this with its sustainable certification initiative. Today it unveiled 49 sustainable certifications for global accommodations, which meet its new criteria. Sustainable certification bodies must meet the following criteria: 👍Third-party audit that includes on-site and/or remote online assessment of sustainable practices reported by the property. 👍Publicly available standards upon which the certification is based. 👍Focuses on evaluating the impact of social and/or economic, and/or environmental factors, among others, as encompassed within, but not restricted, to the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals You can read more below with comment from Travalyst CEO Sally Davey and which sustainable certifications made the initial list. #certifications #sustainable #hotel #alignment #travel

Travelling to Stockholm? Check out our hotel review of the Radisson Hotel Group Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel Stockholm. This hotel has so many sustainable features including, making use of the waterfront location, the hotel and congress centre are cooled by water pumped up from Lake Klara. Down in the basement are 250-tonne ice tanks where the water is stored. This technique is then used to control and regulate the temperatures across the two buildings. The technology has been well tested and the building has been using it for years so the hotel is able to transfer the energy between the people who need it. A recent post by Carolyn Pearson talked about what RFPs should really consider for accessible hotel rooms. An expert in safe and accessible travel for all, maiden-voyage.com's Pearson shared findings in a recent survey. "87.5% of respondents said that they would prioritise using hotels that had invested in creating an inclusive guest experience. That could be through external training or internally-led projects." "There is disparity between what constitutes an accessible room. Rooms that can't be reached because the lift doors aren't wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair aren't accessible. " "Bookers and guests want to be able to see an accessible room online, ideally photographs and video prior to booking. What suits one guest might not suit another. Corporate bookers also want to be able to book online AND would also like staff at the property be contactable directly so that they can answer any specific questions." Check out our feature on accessibility and inclusions in hotels 👇👇👇 #accessibility #hotels #inclusion #DEI #responsibletravel

Summary of our ESG and governance conversation at Sustainability Bites - it's all about the G. Sustainable Hotel News and Hyatt Place London City East invited industry leaders in hospitality and sustainability to chat about governance in ESG. Here are some key takeaways from the conversation. Thanks to those who came along to offer their thoughts on the big and the little G ! Michael Mason-Shaw, Paul Wells, Anjana Raza, Sarah Duncan, Ufi Ibrahim, Jamie Craze Omnevue World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance Studio Moren Energy & Environment Alliance Sustainability Bites - It's all about the G key takeaways: ✅ There are different types of ways to look at governance – the big G with the box ticking and process for big corporations, and the small G for SMEs fitting in, but all governance matters. And with regards to ESG it will all come down to making sure everyone has the right practices and reporting frameworks in place; 📊 Whether you respond to the carrot or the stick, all sustainability data should be treated as thoroughly as financial data; ⏰ What are we waiting for? Are we waiting for the equivalent of the financial crash for the non-financial data reporting?; 📑 Certifications are currently useful for marketing and communicating sustainable practices, as well as galvanising a team to a common goal, but there needs to be one truth; 🎓 Education is key to the success of governance. We need to better communicate the 'why' of sustainability to the hospitality sector from the bottom to the top; 🎯 Having KPIs and financial remuneration in place around ESG would help hotel teams but few have this system in place. Once hotels have the metrics they can manage the KPIs and it becomes more ingrained. This will eventually happen with ESG; 🗣️ Communication around the business benefits of ESG compliance would be useful; #ESG #sustainability #governance #hotels #reporting #nonfinancialreporting #emissions #data
