The Biden-Harris Administration recently released a federal action plan to address plastic pollution. AMBR 100% supports federal action on plastic pollution. But to truly address this crisis, we need to focus on the root cause of the problem: the overproduction of plastics. Recycling is a key part of a zero waste future, but recycling alone will NEVER solve the plastics pollution crisis. We need big, bold, and immediate actions that prioritize reduction and reuse. A global treaty to end plastic pollution is on the horizon! In 2024, the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution is expected to conclude its discussions and adopt an internationally binding document to address the critical issue of plastic pollution that has escalated in recent years. This initiative aims to implement binding measures addressing all stages of the plastic value chain, from reducing single-use plastic production to exploring alternative packaging materials and increasing recycling rates while promoting circular solutions. Without such measures, the annual production of plastics is set to skyrocket, leading to a significant environmental crisis. We are producing 430 million metric tons of new plastics every year. At this rate, that will triple by 2060. As consumers, our choices matter. Therefore, the next time you consider purchasing single-use plastic canisters for windshield washer fluid, try to opt for a more ecological solution without unnecessary plastics - like EcoTank. #PlasticPollution #circularSolutions #environment #EcoTank #greenerTomorrow

" So far, efforts to tackle it have primarily focused on the disposal phase, through end-of-life waste management techniques, including better waste collection systems and the expansion of recycling, incineration and landfill capacity. But these approaches do not prevent the release of pollutants earlier in the life cycle, nor do they significantly reduce the climate impacts of plastics, the vast majority of which happen before the plastic becomes waste. It is also clear that these systems cannot cope with the burgeoning volumes of plastic production that exist in the world. We cannot continue to rely on methods to tackle plastic pollution that we know do not work." https://lnkd.in/gEJF8YWj #noplastic #zeroplastic #savetheplanet #sustainability #sustainableliving #ecofriendly #plasticfree

The U.S. has unveiled its first national strategy to combat plastic pollution, as reported by Fast Company. This comprehensive plan aims to tackle the plastic crisis through enhanced recycling efforts, innovative policies, and a reduction in plastic production. Such national attention on the issue highlights the urgent need for sustainable practices and effective waste management solutions. At ATLAS-SSI, we are aligned with these national goals through our proactive efforts to manage and reduce plastic pollution in waterways. Our advanced screening technologies play a crucial role in intercepting plastics and other debris from entering our oceans and rivers. By doing so, we not only protect marine ecosystems but also contribute to the broader objectives of reducing global plastic waste. Our commitment extends beyond our products; we are dedicated to fostering partnerships and pursuing innovations that support the environment. As the country moves forward with this ambitious strategy, ATLAS-SSI remains a proud supporter and active participant in efforts to create cleaner, healthier water systems across the globe. This article resonated with me deeply. Sustainability requires a suited balance of multi-domain approaches. In the words of Dow's CEO: "The first priority is driving innovation through design". With sustainable goals in mind, a rational material design to achieve high performance and sustainability will include plastic circularity, advanced recycling technologies, emerging bio-sourced/bio-derived feedstock, biodegradable and compostable materials for single-use products, and substitution and remediation of existing pollutants.
COURAGE. Super proud of our CEO, Jim Fitterling and all my colleagues at Dow for engaging the world at the intergovernmental meeting in Ottawa Canada this month, INC-4 (https://lnkd.in/gfabbEe3) to end plastic pollution. INC-4 convenes in hopes of advancing a legally binding global agreement to end plastic pollution. Time is ticking: Few countries have any goals to limit or reduce plastic waste, reinforcing the urgency for a more rigorous and practical approach. https://lnkd.in/gkGJUhXr
