Cyclists in Copenhagen feel most unsafe due to crowded bike lanes filled with other cyclists and electric vehicles. Last year's Mobility Report found that half of Copenhageners feel there is too little space on bike lanes. Ironically, Nørrebrogade, which has perhaps the widest cycle lanes in the city, feels like the most unsafe spot. 🚴♂️ When discussing safety on Copenhagen's bike lanes, we often focus on accident statistics. However, if we want to encourage more people to cycle for public health, climate, air quality, and economic benefits, we need to look more closely at what makes people feel safe. This is why we conducted a survey among our Danish members, revealing these insights among other findings. The results were published this week by KøbenhavnLiv. #safety #cycling #liveablecities

What if sustainable transportation just isn’t fun enough? I know that sounds like an oversimplification, but most people seem to underestimate the power of fun with regard to changing commuter behaviour. Perhaps our biggest problem isn’t a lack of infrastructure, but a lack of interest. Take a look at this video about how Bentonville, Arkansas has made cycling much more attractive to commuters by making it fun! https://lnkd.in/e_QHE6WH

Bay to Bay 30km 🏃 This race was a big eye-opener for me. I learnt a lot about the importance of preparation both before the big day and during the race itself. Despite battling a nasty bout of sickness on race day, I am chuffed that I finished and powered through against the voice in my head telling me to call it quits from the 10km mark. Here are the key takeaways that I’ll be carrying forward into my next race: • Note to self: never underestimate the importance of pre-race preparation! Lesson learned: no more sleeping on couches the night before race day, and if I do, making sure I'm armed with a fan and mosquito spray. • Fueling up properly is crucial. Gone are the days of relying on a single jungle oats bar; a good meal beforehand is a game-changer. • Lesson learned the hard way: stick to familiar gels to avoid feeling nauseous mid-race. Next race: Cape Peninsula Marathon 🏆

This is a step in the right direction. There should be a transportation impact study to determine the most appropriate, safe and optimal design and application considering infra, equipment and human dynamics to pull this off. So far, we have yet to see any formal urban design study to address this transport mode (cycling) integrated in our mobility infrastructure.

Bicycles are for everyone. That is the takeaway Canyon Bicycles GmbH wants you to have from its recent collaboration with Lebron James. And... they're right! 46% of survey respondents in McKinsey's Center for Future Mobility survey indicate they're open to replacing their private vehicles with other modes of transport in the coming decade. By 2030 the market for micro-mobility is expected to reach $440B. No matter the reason, cycling is for all. https://lnkd.in/gAR6rcrA https://lnkd.in/gtFyJxbg

Cycling on rural roads – removing barriers in focus in new SAFER connected project! 🚴 🚴 Have you ever held your breath, focusing intently on keeping your bike within the extremely narrow shoulder, avoiding the ditch, while cars and trucks zoom past you with just meters to spare? You're not alone! Many rural cyclists experience this, and it seems there will be even more in the future. One thing is certain: we need more active travelers to transition to a sustainable transportation system. But how can we accelerate this transition without jeopardizing the lives of these pioneers, who are leading the way towards a sustainable lifestyle? This is the question a new project, led by Katja Kircher, and carried out by If Insurance and Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI) together with Ramdoll and POC in SAFER's portfolio aims to answer!
