Silencio please. Many of us have lived through the years when innovations came from New York. Over the years, other capitals have had their turn, but every now and then, the city that never sleeps still surprises me with its creativity. In Midtown (where Studio54 made history), not exactly a fashion-centric area but certainly one rich in history and legends, a well-known French private club and cultural hub has arrived. Nestled between two storefronts on the sidewalk, you'll find a door that leads down a staircase to an alley which leads to another door. Upon entering, you're greeted by opulence. This is Silencio, the latest export of French nightlife to land in NYC. Known for their late-night revelries in Paris, Silencio has opened branches in Ibiza and a second one in the City of Lights, while just beginning to explore the US market (with a pop-up at Art Basel almost 10 years ago). As someone who spent over a decade in live events and often wondered 'who *%#^ designed this?' The chance to work on event spaces is deeply meaningful to me. Hopefully I can help the next batch of live event folks have spaces that are magical for attendees, designed with production in mind, and revenue generating for owners. So, people looking for event space in Eastern Washington with easy parking that's well connected to city core, Wenatchee Convention Center should be on your list. It is a great Stantec team, with Tara Damschen on Acoustics and Norm Lanum, RCDD on Technology. Want to take your Convention Center or event space to the next level? You _need_ Tara, because without quality acoustics, you're doomed. You don't always need 3D modeling with VR aural walkthroughs, but you do need acousticians to ensure spaces are going to meet your needs. Trying to solve it after the fact with technology, even AI is expensive, not sustainable and operationally risky. (Norm and I helped too.) Our partnership ALSC Architects has been wonderful. Flexible intimate spaces. This is a project that I hope to see very soon, with a symbolic, cultural, creative, and distinctly Italian significance. Envisioned for years as a significant international cultural establishment in the heart of Lower Manhattan, the Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC) stands as the final piece and cultural cornerstone of the 2003 initiative to reconstruct the World Trade Center site following the tragedy of 9/11. PAC NYC serves as both a cultural hub and a testament to the transformative power of the arts. Its striking metamorphosis is remarkable: by day, it presents itself as a sturdy, monolithic structure, only to become a luminous, translucent cube after nightfall. 👉🏼What the story…..with this terribly video quality? It’s probably what your thinking, don’t worry we we’re too. But it’s actually clips from our first ever party as H&G Creations (hunt & gather at the time) Just when you think 10 years wasn’t that long ago, you see images and videos from then and you realise it actually was a while ago. Let’s set the scene the for everyone, it’s 2014, the country is recovering from a financial crisis, a-lot of pals have emigrated, and there’s not many opportunities going. But by golly we we’re not gunna let that stop us from making art and having good time. We took inspiration from Nuit Blanche late night festival that would happen every year in Paris. And we created our own Nuit Blanche in an old office of public work formerly knows as IMOCA (irish museum of contemporary art) a giant white walled warehouse space the perfect canvas. We created a night market, art exhibition, art classes, dance party and big kids playground for everyone till the wee hours in the morning. It was so popular people lined up around the block to get in and even were climbing the walls to get in. And there you have it H&G was born. Our vision was always to being people joy, bring art to people in unusual spaces, and expose new culture to those who may never have experienced culture before. Architectural lighting is not just about what you illuminate, it's also about what you obscure. Drawing focus using lighting is an old trick in theatre and is a lesson that can be applied to architectural lighting as well.
