We’ve loved bringing together the iconic Cyndi Lauper with WaterAid to design this one off unique disco loo at Glastonbury Festival- it’s fun with a serious message behind it that 1 in 5 people around the world don’t have access to clean and decent toilets! We can’t thank Cyndi and her team enough for taking time and really caring about the design and highlighting the serious message supporting WaterAid. Girls just wanna have…. Fundamental rights! Ms Lauper commented: “I’m proud to partner with WaterAid at Glastonbury Festival to highlight that toilets shouldn’t be a luxury. One in five people around the world don’t have a decent toilet, which affects their health and dignity. The situation is particularly bad for women, who risk their safety when finding somewhere private to go, and girls are missing out on an education due to a lack of water and toilets in school. Girls and women must have their fundamental rights, which is why I’m helping WaterAid spread the message that clean water and good sanitation will help everyone live the life they deserve.” Do catch Cyndi on the Pyramiid stage at 2.30pm today! #cyndilauper #wateraid #glastonbury #discoloo #glasto #icon #toilet #disco #cleanwater

OmniAction's journey began with a meditation on bees. We span out of a campaign to the first UN Food Systems Summit which was led by Quota.Media (a magazine that's currently in hibernation). Quota adopted an ancient bee goddess from Rhodes as its logo, reflecting the vital role bees play in the food system, the pollination of ideas and better relationships, and the great pleasure that honey has always been – our first sweet treat before sugar crops were developed. Our campaign to the UN was a success and early funders said, "Turn the activism into action." We began by mapping the UN Sustainable Development Goals and UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples to the full impacts of the global food system – addressing in particular Indigenous People’s rights, forced and child labour rights, gender rights, rights to food, water and clean air, and the right to participate knowledgeably in environmental transformation. We brought together a global community of experts from industry, academia and government policy, who are tackling real-world sustainability challenges across the food system. Our hivemind produced an agreed framework, metric and methodology - defining and measuring sustainability in food and agriculture. One of our many achievements in 2022 was developing a new training programme to build empathy in food system leaders. Called Being More, it's designed around the lived experiences of farmers and others in the food chain, in partnership with the UNDP-convened Conscious Food Systems Alliance. Still inspired by bees, we're working inside the food system, bringing our hivemind to each sustainability challenge as it arises. So do reach out, for training, consultancy, planning, projects, reports and presentations. We're working at local, national and global level on policy, industry and academic solutions.
Twelfth night, New Year reflection: The Hive, an installation at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, calls attention to pollination and its importance in our food chain. The vibrations of bees communicating were recorded in a Kew hive, and here, the lights and music are pulsing in time to those vibrations. It was inspired by Dr Martin Bencsik at Nottingham Trent University, who's developed technology to monitor the health of beehives. It's mesmerising. Created by Wolfgang Buttress, SIMMONDS STUDIO LIMITED, Stage One Creative Services Ltd and BDP (Building Design Partnership Ltd). #foodsystems #pollination #bees

🚨 Building Safe Latrines in Informal Settlements: From Crisis to Long-Term Dignity 🚨 In informal settlements, access to safe, clean, and private sanitation is often one of the first things lost in a crisis—but it doesn’t have to be this way. At the heart of every response to a sanitation emergency is the belief that everyone deserves dignity. Using the Sphere Handbook as a guide, here’s how we can go from emergency interventions to lasting solutions: Emergency Phase: Quick, Temporary Solutions When disaster strikes, the immediate priority is getting basic, functional latrines in place. These might be simple trench or pit latrines, but they provide the most crucial thing: a safe place to go. Handwashing stations and hygiene education follow right behind. It’s not perfect, but it’s a start—giving people back a small sense of normalcy. Transition Phase: Moving Towards Dignity As the situation stabilizes, we can improve. Temporary structures are upgraded, offering more privacy and safety, particularly for women and children. Involving the community in where and how these latrines are built helps make sure the solutions are practical, culturally appropriate, and cared for. Long-Term Phase: Sustainable and Safe Solutions Eventually, we can work toward durable, permanent latrines—ones that protect health, respect privacy, and don’t harm the environment. Whether it’s composting toilets or ventilated latrines, the goal is the same: dignity and safety for all. Communities are empowered to manage and maintain these facilities, making sure the solution isn’t just for today, but for the future. Sanitation is about more than just toilets—it's about dignity, safety, and health. Every step we take brings us closer to making sure no one has to live without these basic rights. Together, we can build a world where no one is left behind. 🌍🚻 #WASH #SanitationForAll #DignityInCrisis #SphereStandards #LatrineSolutions #CommunityFirst #HumanitarianWork #LongTermImpact

Assistant Bar Counsel at Massachusetts Office of Bar Counsel (#LegalEthics Tidbits are from me and not my employer)
Happy National Indoor Plant Week! Yes, plants have an important place in lawyer well-being and people well-being (because some lawyers are also people). Indoor plants are not only aesthetically pleasing but have been proven to lower the risk of illness, promote healing, raise productivity, boost creativity, lower stress, reduce background noise, and perhaps most importantly remove pollutants from the air. If you spend eight hours a day in a place, having plants there will make your life better, happier, and probably longer. At first blush, it might seem somewhat silly to need a holiday to remind people of such an obvious premise, but not really. Many employers ban plants from the office place, usually because someone perceives them as untidy, without regard to the fact that the employee benefits of indoor plants vastly and overwhelmingly outweigh the occasional and easily fixable inconveniences of indoor plants. This week is an important reminder of how shortsighted those polices are. Everyone enjoy the day and talk to your plant, if you are fortunate enough to have one to talk to. When I get home, I will be talking with my great grandmother's philodendron, which is still going strong. https://lnkd.in/e-7vB6Yb. #wellbeing #lawyer #attorney #lawfirm #lawyerwellbeing #indoorplants
