Chapter 1: This is the building where my #legaltech career started... It was bang in the middle of the 2007-2008 global financial crisis, I had just spent the last year backpacking around Asia and had moved to the UK with a girl I met (later to become my wife 😚). 💁♂️ Tip: Getting refused entry into the UK sucks, don't get refused entry to the UK. Anyway, I rocked up to an interview and was meet with none other than the brilliant David Boswell, who was a co-founder of Phoenix Business Solutions (now Morae). For reasons still unknown to me, I got the job, and so began my career in legal tech, as a software support engineer mainly helping law firms with their implementation of iManage, and I found myself surrounded by leaders who are still in the industry today - Matt Crocker, David Malkinson, Roger Pickett, Lee Tomlinson, Rajeev Chambore, Antony Wells, the list goes on. 🙏 Dave, thanks mate, without you making that stupid decision to hire me, I would not be where I am today!! There is a lot more to my legaltech career, but this specific chapter would not be complete without mentioning another bloke who took a chance on me and allowed me to transition from being technical, to being commercial - Chris Davis! I had just moved back to Australia, and after seeing all the "fun" the sales guys were having, I decided that this was the direction of travel for me, so, I put my neck on the line and made the career shift. I can count on one hand the best sales people I have met, and without a doubt Chris Davis is one of those. Without him as my teacher and mentor, I am pretty sure I would have failed. Sales back them was brutal, I had a spreadsheet of names, emails and phone numbers (legally sourced I am sure), and I spent my days making phone calls "Hi, would you like to buy a document management system". Chapter 2 to come soon #alwaysbehumble
Must have been something in the air back then as David Boswell and Matt Crocker took a punt on me in 2004! Great memories and fun times! 20 years in the industry and still here!
Thanks Stewart Rasmussen for sharing your memories. Keep it going :) Although I haven’t worked with you, I still couldn’t agree more about leaders like David Boswell Matt Crocker David Malkinson Chris Davis !! To add to the list, I also met another inspirational leader Allan Rees-Bevan, another remarkable leader. Everytime I meet them, there is surely something new to learn.
You're too kind mate. You've two of those qualities that one cannot train. Attitude (a good one to say the least) and drive. The rest is largely coachable. You played a big part in our success at such a crucial time. Thankyou. Enjoy the UK.
The good old days, lots of memories in that building.
They certainly were great days and lots of good memories. Apart from us all getting older, good to see the same faces around the market and doing well!
Loving it Stewart Rasmussen. It was 2007 when I walked into that building for the first time wondering what the hell I was doing. Still at the crease, and wouldn't change a thing. Great times - that place sowed the seeds of a lot of great careers.
They were good old days. Building has changed but a lot of the faces are still around. Great memories mate. I'm loving watching your story. Keep it going!
You are too kind Stewart Rasmussen! Lots of hard work and fun all round in those days. Great to see you doing so well and always enjoy your your posts. Hopefully catch up soon in person mate.
Loved the journey Stewart Rasmussen , also enjoy watching all the good people that have developped, grown and taken opportunities. Whats not to like! Cheers
