Collaboration and innovation take centre stage in life science research In a gathering of nearly 300 #LifeSciences experts at the Pistoia Alliance’s largest-ever European conference, the industry spotlight shone brightly on the transformative potential of #ArtificialIntelligence (AI). However, amidst the buzz of innovation, concerns loomed over regulatory hurdles and data challenges hampering widescale adoption. Survey results unveiled a striking dichotomy: while 70% of respondents acknowledged AI's vast potential, many grappled with the practicalities of implementation, citing obstacles such as data integrity and interoperability. Dame Janet Thornton, a pioneering figure in structural bioinformatics, set the tone for collaboration with her keynote address, echoed by luminaries such as Dr Larry Callahan from the FDA and industry representatives from AbbVie, AstraZeneca, GSK and more. Dr Becky Upton, President of the Pistoia Alliance, underscored the industry's collective resolve: "As technology evolves rapidly, collaboration becomes paramount. Our London conference epitomises the Alliance's mission to foster a forum for safe, effective collaboration. Together, we can surmount the challenges and harness the full potential of AI." No - I’m not convinced that we should be happy about these percentages. “Helping Doctors Make Tricky Diagnoses - In a JAMA study, researchers studied seven tricky cases and tested if Chat GPT-4, an AI platform, could make the diagnosis only using the case description and test results. AI correctly diagnosed the case 39% of the time and listed the correct diagnosis as a possible but not top diagnosis in 64% of cases. Those numbers may not be reassuring to patients. Yet for doctors, it shows the power of AI to copilot perplexing cases, aiding in challenging medical decision-making.” Furthermore, I’m curious to know how Ambient AI rolls up the data in raw form and what does it look like? What happens to de identified pt data (there really isn’t such a thing)? The big questions are - who’s listening and what gets incorporated into the big databases?
