Civic engagement is not just a duty; it's a powerful tool for creating healthier communities. As we observe National Public Health Week (#NPHW), Flourish & Thrive Labs encourages you to reflect on how civic participation influences public health. Whether you voice concerns in community forums, contribute to public health surveys, or engage with local health initiatives, your involvement is a catalyst for change. Together, we can ensure that public health policies reflect our community's needs and aspirations. A recent analysis of civic engagement and state health outcomes from 1996 to 2020 showed that in states where people are more civically engaged and vote more, public health outcomes are better. (Source: Voting Restrictions and Public Health: An Analysis of State Variation ) Did you know that Flourish & Thrive Labs specializes in helping with civic engagement? We recently led a community engagement effort to help understand barriers to participation in a local community. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gzR5AFDU Image source: NPHW

Student success coach helping young people connect with their purpose and what brings them joy II Champion of Community Arts
#Arts+#health. Fascinating read about connecting art to health outcomes…prescribing the arts. “In partnership with local organizations and artists, UHP offers their patients a chance to participate in provider-prescribed #art experiences in their neighborhoods, with a selection of all art genres including visual arts, #dance, #music, #theatre, #spokenword, #literary, #horticulture and #culinaryarts.”
Arts For EveryBody Co-Artistic Director Nataki Garrett reflects on the profound impact of the arts on our current landscape. Read the whole piece below! Garrett calls for increased investment in both the vision and the artists themselves, emphasizing the need for collaboration between local governments, healthcare organizations and art institutions to create a model that considers the arts and healthcare as basic human rights. This is what Arts For EveryBody all about, and we’re so lucky to have leaders like Garrett who are prioritizing equity and access in arts and healthcare 💜 https://lnkd.in/gmZdsZsw #ArtsForEveryBody #ONOP2024 #ArtsinHealth #ArtsinHealthResearch #Art #Health One Nation/One Project 🙌🏽

A MacIntyre contribution to the #HomesNotHospitals efforts. I led the network in Wales which played a very small part in driving a much bigger and ongoing journey of change. Please have a read and keep in touch with MacIntyre and the Homes not Hospitals hashtag to help us share glimpses of more positive alternatives when people are distressed. There is so much more to do but if we keep showing what's possible we are so much more likely to achieve positive outcomes than if we just focus on what's wrong. #CompassionFirstPBS #BuildOnThePositives Improving Adult Care Together (IMPACT) Improvement Cymru Heather Henry Carly Morrissey Sarah Kilby Bild In Control Partnerships

To truly transform societies, first we need to be able to have tough conversations — rooted in love. Compassionate conversations can help guide us in restructuring our schools, hospitals, and workplaces as places of care, inclusion, and inspiration. Local Democracy + Civic Hubs Accelerator // Thriving Communities Promoter // Collective Impact Catalyzer // Theologian // Naval Officer // Lawyer
Invitation: If you are in DC on November 29th and work in the democracy + civic health-promoting ecosystem, you are invited to a no-host happy hour at Free State Bar in DC starting at 5pm. ------- This happy hour will coincide with the "Future of Citizenship - 2023 Annual National Conference on Citizenship" and other democracy + civic health-related conferences in DC that week, so there will be many colleagues from across the country joining. This is a unique opportunity to meet, make friends, and compare notes with interesting people from across the community of democracy and civic health-promoting movements. ------- Details When: Wednesday, November 29th. Come whenever you can and stay for however long you want. Where: Free State Bar. 501B G St NW, Washington, DC 20001. About two blocks from both the Judiciary Square (Red line) and the Gallery Place-Chinatown (Red, Yellow, Green lines) metro stops. Why: Socializing together in-person (a) is fun, (b) helps us discover a sense of belonging within this community of practitioners, and (c) creates important cross-field relationships that are critical for collective impact. Transforming American democracy and civic health requires a lot of different people/orgs working together across many different lines of operation, so consider this time a valuable investment in building a movement together. Other Info: It is totally informal/casual...there will be no agenda, no dress code...bring whomever you would like (family/friends/etc.). Drinks and bar snacks are available for purchase (happy hour specials from 4-6pm). Outside food is permitted, so feel free to grab dinner and bring it in if you're hungry (there are a lot of nearby restaurants/take-out options). If you would like a calendar invite, please e-mail me at cchristen@uwalumni.com. #democracydrinks
