Today our Tanzania Early Childhood Education and Care (TECEC) team had a home visit where we found children immersed in play. Play and learning are inseparable in early childhood, but their importance often goes unrecognized. Play is not merely a pastime; it is vital for a child's development. Through play, children develop problem-solving, creativity, and social skills. We advocate for recognizing the value of play. Let's raise awareness about the significance of play in early childhood and ensure every child has the opportunity to play and explore freely. #PlayAndLearn #EarlyChildhoodDevelopment #PowerOfPlay ChangeX The LEGO Foundation

Strengthening children's identity and resilience through cultural connections is key. Traditional games, storytelling, and art foster this identity, promoting mutual respect in diverse communities. 🎭 At UNICEF, we advocate for policies prioritizing play-based learning. We engage parents and educators to ensure every child thrives in a joyful, nurturing environment that enriches identity and culture. 💙 Meet Mitsue Uemura, our Regional Education Adviser, who shares practical tips for fostering play-based learning while setting foundations on identity and culture: 🔸 Connect to culture: Incorporate local games and materials, as well as storytelling to strengthen identity and mutual respect in diverse communities. 🎨 Follow children’s interests: Observe their passions closely and introduce activities that match. 🍳 Integrate play daily: Turn everyday routines like cooking or shopping into fun learning opportunities. 🏠 Create a playful environment: Designate a special play area at home for exploration and creativity. 💡 Encourage questions: Foster curiosity through inquiry-based learning. Let's empower caregivers to promote play-based learning rooted in identity and cultural connection. 🎉 #EarlyMomentsMatter

In our September 2023 edition of Rattler, ECT Nadia Latin explored how engaging children in the process of tidying up can be a great way to support transitions and independence. She suggested using Montessori principles to help children manage the environment while also highlighting the value of messy play for sensory development and foundational skills. To support tidying up, she offered practical tips including: 🧹 Establish specific zones where children can put away their projects or activities once they've finished, promoting organisation and orderliness. 🧹 Utilise photographs of the learning spaces to aid children in the tidying-up process, providing visual cues and making it easier for them to understand where things should go. 🧹 Set an example by demonstrating appropriate tidying-up behaviour and using explicit, age-appropriate instructions to guide the children effectively. 🧹 Engage children in the tidying-up process by asking them which area they would like to tidy, promoting a sense of agency and allowing them to take ownership of their environment. “Life In A Playroom” is a fun series where I catch up with kids mostly during the highlights of their playtime. It is very important to watch closely and observe children during this free moment when their #imagination is at an all time high. You get to #learn a thing or two if you’re lucky by listening carefully or even engaging the children in a conversation. A lot of ideas are coined from this significant moment when these young minds are at #play and fully absorbed by the activities around them. Personalities are defined here. Potentials are unlocked. Friendships are built. Talent is exhibited. Interactions happen, #creativity blossoms and a whole lot more. Functional #playrooms are like think tanks where children find inspiration, motivation and solace. Relationships between the same children in a playroom might defer outside the zone. Thus, there’s a lot of magic that happens within the walls of this wonderful territory even for adults. I find it interesting and exciting joining the kids in a playroom to utilize productive and educational moments as #learning continues to happen directly and indirectly. For me, a lot of #brainstorming also prevails here. Watch more fun episodes with the kids on my WhatsApp channel and send a DM for inquiries or Kids Must Read Program bookings! #educator #playroomactivities #teacher #earlychilddevelopment #childeducation #homeschool #indooractivities #funandgames #humanitarian #homeschool #creativecontent #childenthusiast #kidsactivities #learningthroughplay #childadvocate #playtime #creativeskills Jabir Mustapha Sambo Nr. 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻, 𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆! Are you a parent or educator like me who fears the idea of your child getting dirty or playing in sand, you are not alone!😊 keeping them healthy and tidy is important, however, we need to let children be children and enjoy childhood like many of us did. Infact many of us played big time in sand, mud and rain🤣🤣🤣 Not only is playing with sand great fun, but it also has loads of great benefits. Here are some of great benefits of Sand Play in early childhood: 1️⃣ 𝘋𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘴 𝘎𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘍𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘔𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘚𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴 Sand play activities offers children the opportunities to use and develop their fine and gross motor skills. for instance, gripping sticks to make patterns on sand, holding spades, scooping and pouring sands, jumping on sand to make footprints, using tools like mini-shovels, rakes and more also support the development of hand-eye coordination and other skills like writing, self feeding and more🤷🥰 2️⃣ 𝘉𝘰𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘴 𝘊𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘚𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴 Playing in the sand allows children use their imagination and be creative. They can build sandcastles, make shapes, and even change the texture of the sand by adding water. Giving them tools like buckets and shovels helps them explore their ideas. 3️⃣ 𝘐𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴. Playing in the sand is a great way for children to interact with each other. They learn to take turns, share ideas, and work together to make and build things in the sand. This helps them feel good about themselves and their friendships. ...So dear Parents and educators encourage your children to get into sand play but with close supervision😊👍 ❤️What other benefits are embedded in sand play? kindly share in the comment section 😊 ♻️If you find this post insightful, kindly share and repost to other educators and parents. 🌏 Singapore Preschools Transform with Montessori-Infused Nursery Furniture and Layouts! 🛋️📚 In Singapore, preschools are taking strides in integrating Montessori principles into their classroom environments and furniture choices. Recognizing the importance of a child-centered approach, these classrooms feature carefully selected nursery furniture and layouts that encourage independence, exploration, and learning: Montessori-Style Nursery Furniture: The furniture is child-sized, promoting accessibility and self-reliance. From low shelves for easy access to materials, to tables and chairs perfectly sized for little learners, every piece is designed to support the Montessori ethos of fostering independence and respect for a child's ability. Thoughtful Classroom Layouts: Spaces are arranged to encourage exploration and social interaction. Classrooms in Singaporean Montessori preschools often have distinct areas for different activities, like a reading corner, art space, and practical life area, allowing children to move freely and choose activities that interest them. This blend of Montessori philosophy with nursery furniture and classroom design is setting Singapore's preschools apart, creating environments that nurture young minds in a holistic and engaging way. #MontessoriEducation #SingaporePreschools #NurseryDesign
