At Pillars, our "Days Away" program is a cornerstone of our core values: curiosity, creativity, and community. This initiative is much more than just time away from the desk—it's an invitation to step outside daily routines and immerse ourselves in diverse experiences that fuel personal and professional growth. Throughout the past year, our team members have embarked on journeys across the United States and abroad. Each destination has offered unique opportunities to delve into subjects that pique individual interests and resonate with our mission at Pillars. For instance, some explored national housing reform, while others embraced the Danish concept of "hygge," studied the intricacies of transit systems in Mexico City, or investigated environments designed for the Creative Class. These travels are not just about seeing new places; they're about bringing back transformative ideas and applying them creatively to our projects. By engaging deeply with various cultures and innovations, our employees return with enriched perspectives that enhance our work and strengthen our community. At Pillars, every journey is a chance to learn and grow. We celebrate these experiences, which not only foster personal growth but also drive our collective quest for innovation and connection. Our workplace thrives on the curiosity and creativity that these adventures stir, making us more than just colleagues—we're a community that grows together. #JoinPillars #DaysAway #Curiosity #Creativity #Community

A "lame duck" typically refers to an elected official, such as a president or governor, who is approaching the end of their term and has not been re-elected or is ineligible for re-election, thereby having diminished political influence and authority. However, it also refers to someone who is on their way out of their jobs or their elected office. In other words, someone who struggles to get out of their comfort zone. It is indisputable that such act would require a lot of courage and will as well as strong adaptability skills. Yet, one should admit that personal growth and admirable achievements are always accompanied by the greatest challenges. Unwavering faith in oneself, and the audacity to defy limits and expectations would be the torch that lightens the path while navigating the transition out of a familiar role. So, let’s celebrate today as a day to honor and encourage those who step out of their nest to discover new horizons, or as we say at #Sunexpress “To New Heights!”. ✈️ #flytalent

New experience seeker / Midlife revamper / Climate and Sustainability learner and advocate / Telecom Engineering / Headline rearranger
So this week, in a double whammy, I started my new Learning for Action course at Terra.do, and did onboarding to sub at local schools. These are alongside joining toastmasters, diving into a bunch of hard renewable energy/sustainability classes, and taking on larger roles a variety of climate action and volunteer groups. The ultimate goal being to chart a new path into a meaningful and fulfilling future career. Substitute teaching a bunch of crazy kids to start should be a nice change of pace from sitting at home alone on the PC working network issues :) The path into environmental work is pretty hazy honestly. However this is not a "try" kind situation, it's a "gonna happen - period" statement! The hardest part is deciding on a certain lane for focus, as the needs in this arena, and the importance behind them, are vast. The steps being taken will hopefully provide clarity there, and help in networking into this new field. One thing I really want to try and do is help be a bit of an example, or perhaps hope, for others finding themselves in a similar situation. So many guys and gals my age get to this point, where the kids are about gone, and they have spent the last 20 years just doing the job and getting what needed done, done. Maybe we eventually are kicked to the curb in a layoff, or just wake up and realize we aren't what we thought we would be. It's either we put our head down and plug away till retirement, or just perhaps take one last look around and see if there is a different way. It's scary to turn away from a road you've been on for a long time. I admit I am scared. Scared it won't work, or I'll look stupid, or whatever... The only solid promise I can make for myself, is that I will not be the same coming out of this time as I was going into it. So in a huge change, instead of hiding alone, I'll stick my neck out a bit. I'll try to document a bit the resources available out there, and chart what I'll call my "Mid-Life Revamp". There is still a burning hope I can make a difference in a way I thought I would when I was younger. It's not too late.. https://www.terra.do/

It’s a day to be happy, of course! Happiness is a fundamental human goal. The United Nations General Assembly recognizes this goal and calls for “a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes the happiness and well-being of all peoples.” Governments and international organizations should invest in conditions that support happiness by upholding human rights and incorporating well-being and environmental dimensions into policy frameworks, such as the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The effectiveness of governments in upholding peace and social order, as well as in the fields of taxation, legal institutions and delivery of public services, strongly correlates with average life satisfaction.

When is the last time you changed someone’s life at work? WSP did just that today! 🤩 They took part in the Lightbulb Teams water works programme, and in doing so, have provided life saving clean water for thousands of people in Uganda. Workplaces can be tough. 🏢 😒There’s politics. 😩There’s ego. 😤There are budget constraints. 😳There’s the constant uncertainty about what’s happening in your marketplace. It can sometimes feel like you’re running against the wind. 💨 Worse, still, it can start to feel like you’re in the same Groundhog Day, doing the same thing, with the same people, and having the same limited impact. 😴 That’s why it’s so important to give your team time out to reflect on their successes, to explore their challenges, to be honest about their fears and vulnerabilities, and more importantly, to set clear audacious ambitions for their shared future. 💯 When we come together as a team, it challenges our expectations of the future, it forces us to think differently about the hurdles that we face every day, and more importantly, when we roll our sleeves up and get involved, it allows us to truly reimagine our future in an active and participative way. ✅ WSP are constantly investing in their people. They create a platform for personal and professional growth, and build environments that foster collaboration and positive disruption. Huge thanks to Natalie Lord, Mark Naysmith , Emma Wyatt , and then entire team for their support. WSP in Canada WSP in the Middle East WSP in the U.S. WSP in the UK WSP in Australia
