The Technical Assistance Unit (TAU) - Support to the Criminal Justice Reform in Ethiopia Programme, funded by the European Union 🇪🇺 and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) International Services-led consortium with DCAF - Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance, works with criminal justice institutions to empower Ethiopian citizens by promoting understanding of fundamental rights. Today, let's talk about the Rights of Women and Children as we continue to explore fundamental rights in Ethiopia. These rights ensure special provisions to protect women and children from discrimination and exploitation: 👩👧👦 Protection from discrimination: Women and children must be safeguarded against any form of discrimination, ensuring they have equal opportunities and treatment in all spheres of life. 🛡️ Safeguards against exploitation: Specific measures are put in place to protect women and children from exploitation, abuse, and violence, ensuring their safety and well-being in society. These rights are crucial to foster a society where women and children can thrive, free from fear and harm. #EU GIZ Ethiopia and Djibouti #Ethiopia #CriminalJusticeReform #Justice4All #RightsOfWomenAndChildren #LegalReform #RuleOfLaw #HumanRights #AccessToJustice #JusticeReform #Safety #Protection

Why is it important to include women in #peace and #security efforts? How can young women from the MENA region and North Africa contribute to peacebuilding in their communities? How does illegal arms trafficking impact the safety and stability of communities in the MENA region? What role can advocacy play in combating the illegal transfer of small arms? More and more we will answer during in our workshop This workshop is organized by the International Humanitarian Law and Youth Initiative in collaboration with The International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA) and is supported by UNSCAR. Ethiopia's human rights situation has significantly worsened since 2019. The government, militias, and armed groups have committed widespread abuses with impunity, violating human rights and humanitarian law. The lack of transparency and independent oversight in addressing past and ongoing atrocities has only exacerbated the problem. Journalists, civil society organizations, and public figures have faced a hostile environment, with arbitrary arrests and prolonged detention without charge. https://lnkd.in/ecuwC_m7

⚖️ On World Day for International Justice, Terre des hommes stresses the need to strengthen efforts to achieve child-centered justice and accountability for children affected by armed conflict. As recently highlighted by UN Children and armed conflict, unprecedent figures have been recorded of children directly and indirectly targeted, including in places like Gaza, Myanmar, and Ukraine, among others. ‘Child-centered accountability is needed more than ever. Fostering accountability of violations, abuses, and crimes against or affecting children contributes to ending impunity, reinforces the rule of law, contributes to effective prevention, and maximises the prospects of long-term peace, social cohesion and development. Collective action is urgent and should be prioritised’, says our colleague Marta Gil, Deputy Head of the Tdh Program Access to Justice. The next World Congress on Justice with Children in 2025 will prioritise the theme ‘Justice in times of crisis’ where child-centered accountability would be at the forefront. Conclusion of #Mock_Trails Sessions as means to promote Justice and Accountability Mechanisms in Yemen. The Center for Strategic Studies to Support Women and Children cswc , a member of the Justice4Yemen pact coalition held the final mock court session today, Saturday, July 27, 2024, in Taiz Governorate. This session comes as part of the Center's efforts to promote justice and accountability mechanisms, aiming to combat impunity and ensure accountability for violators of women's rights during the armed conflict, as well as to raise awareness about the impo rtance of international humanitarian law and human rights, and encourage victims to resort to national mechanisms to file report violations and preserve evidence. Additionally, it highlights the need for Yemen to join international criminal mechanisms to showcase the suffering of victims and their families and demand their right to justice and reparation. The Center's cswc administration stated that the mock court activities are a simulation of what is happening in real life, where the session highlighted the importance of accountability and holding those responsible for the violations accountable to ensure justice and fairness for the victims without discrimination. Accountability is necessary to protect rights and promote community stability and security, and absence of accountability can undermine society and threaten the rule of law. Therefore, we call for strengthening the sanctity of the law as the ultimate guardian of human dignity and to achieve justice and prevent the recurrence of such violations. #Justice4Yemen
