I trully believe that each one of us can make a difference, so for me and my family, I really try to buy only fresh food, avoiding as much as possible canned food or similar, I know I'm bless to live in the tropic with so many fresh markets and affordable prices, I hope we all can have that chance or start to appreciate what's locally produced. 🤗 The power for the change is in the hands of the consumers and we are them.

I had been vegetarian, preferring regional produce, wherever possible, for 35 years, when my younger daughter, a bit more then 7 years ago, started a breakfast conversion one morning during a joint vacation by saying "If we were consistent, we'd be vegans." She was well prepared to argue her case, so we decided then and there, that beginning that day, we would stop buying non-vegan products. We didn't want to waste food, so we agreed that the stuff already in our larder, the clothing, shoes and any other non-vegan products we already had, should be used up or given away to people using them. Since then, we are vegan. So we have hardly any margin for even more planet-friendly food choices this month. 😎

As a bee keeper Iam up close and personal to each Hive we look after. What we do see is after spraying9 ROUND UP READY CROPS) soya ,corn of wheat fields as they have just done around some areas the forgers die off, this is the life of the Hive as its kind of a cycle of bees born, needed workers but the Honey bee only lives, app. 30 days in summer. so they only leave the hive the last 10 days of their life to bring in pollen & nectar. In days of farmers spraying and weather they're out there working very hard. The conditions of run off through these farmlands drains can contain at least 29 herbicides . There`s more bad stuff for sure but basically this is what many farms water there so called veggies your buying at the market!.. I`am not saying the rain is perfect either but , its the only M class planet we have.. A balanced diet for sure , and learning about new ways for better healthy food making our way to our family table.

Great to think about water footprints as well as carbon 💦💦💦 In terms of food waste, busy lives get in the way which can mean perishable food not being used - a weekly meal planner is a great idea to reduce domestic food waste, and it can be a positive way to get families involved, and children starting to learn the importance of sustainability in a fun, active way - put the planner complete with coloured pictures (optional!), on your fridge 🥗♻️🍽️

Food’s multifaceted role in our lives offers numerous opportunities to promote sustainability. Many traditional diets emphasize plant-based foods, local ingredients, and minimal waste, which can lead to more sustainable food systems. Community-supported agriculture, farmers' markets, and food cooperatives strengthen local economies and reduce the carbon footprint associated with long-distance food transport. Leveraging food's cultural significance to educate people about sustainable practices through cooking classes, food festivals, and educational programs can be effective. Emphasizing the ethical aspects of food, such as fair trade, organic farming, and humane treatment of animals, can drive consumer choices towards more sustainable options. Urban agriculture, community gardens, and better meal planning can also significantly reduce the environmental impact of food production and distribution. By integrating these sustainable practices into the cultural and communal aspects of food, we can create a more sustainable and resilient food system. Great Initiative.

Despite our willingness to preserve the planet and our bodies through our food choices, purchasing organic food is for many, not economically practical. Furthermore, in several underserved communities, organic fresh produce is often unavailable. Therefore, in addition to the discussion about ways customers' food choices can benefit the planet, conversations on ways food retailers' prices and business location can benefit the planet and all its inhabitants, are also needed.
