Our team in Kenya recently signed on the Leventis Football Club to aid in raising awareness of human trafficking. Here's what our team in Kenya has shared with us — "Our team has recognized that there was a growing issue of human trafficking in the sports industry, particularly in African countries where players are trafficked to Europe to play for their teams. The allure of European football clubs and the desire for a better life drive many young players to trust agents who exploit their dreams. Traffickers take advantage of vulnerable individuals, promising them opportunities that never come to fruition and subject them to exploitation and abuse instead. Sports trafficking involves the sale of athlete's across national boundaries for profit. This illegal activity leaves players in precarious legal positions, having been coerced into signing exploitative contracts by agents who claim to have connections with professional clubs abroad. Young players and their families, who are often from low-income backgrounds, are lured by the promise of a better future and fall victim to these traffickers. Leventis Football Club has stepped in to help us combat this horrific issue. They have taken proactive steps to raise awareness and prevent human trafficking within the sports industry. By collaborating youth associations and sports programs, the club aims to educate young players on the common indicators of trafficking and the risks of false promises of professional contracts. By providing training and support to these youths, our organization is empowering them to make informed decisions and protect themselves from traffickers. Additionally, our organization has initiated partnerships and dialogues with sports agencies and leagues to address the root causes of sports trafficking. By advocating for stricter regulations and enforcement measures, we are working towards creating a safer and more transparent sports industry." #nonprofit #nonprofits #theblessingprojects #notforprofit #donate #donorlove #donors #funding #fundraise #giveback #philanthropy #advocacy #aid #education #humantrafficking #humanity #impact #sustainability #geopolitics #causes #change #SocialGood

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a project I have been working on / leading over the last two years that means a great deal to me. Context: In 2010, tragically, my good friend's sister was the victim of a horrific sexual attack in Melbourne, Australia that resulted in her death. Her name was Elsa Corp. Following the incident, in 2021, The Corp family went on to set up a fundraising project in her name. The Elsa Corp Justice Project is a fundraising branch of the Friends of Butoke Charity in Africa. The Friends of Butoke Charity raises money to support girls and women in the Democratic Republic of Congo who have been victims of sexual assault. 100% of the money goes toward medical and psychological care, food, clothing, education and importantly legal representation to help prosecute and bring justice. Six offenders were imprisoned last year from our funding - previously, this would have never happened. We are having a tangible impact on the landscape and safety of women and girls in the DRC. Additionally 7 girls who were victims of attacks were supported through our funding. Initiative: Last year I started and led an initiative alongside Danny (Elsa’s Brother), through the East Sandringham Cricket Club (my home club in Melbourne) as this is where I met Danny. The initiative involved running 5kms for every day of January in order to raise awareness and funds for this incredible cause. A total of 155 km for the month. Last year we had 11 members of the East Sandringham Cricket Club sign up and complete the running initiative. Together, we were able to raise an impressive $3366 AUD toward the cause. This year, again we are running 5km each day for the month of February. We are currently on day 22 and my legs are certainly feeling the pinch (running in London winter this year is slightly different compared to running during Australian summer last year!). We have a total of 23 members currently completing the initiative this year (12 more than last year!!), and we have already surpassed last year's fundraising total as we have raised $4,278 AUD still with 7 days of February left. Every member who committed to the running initiative has also donated $50 AUD as an entry fee. The ethos being, if you are going to ask for money for a cause, you have to be willing to donate to it yourself. As always, there is never pressure to donate. However, if you feel like this is a cause that resonates with you for whatever reason that may be, know that every penny contributed has a very large impact on the lives of these women in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Please also feel free to share this link with anyone you know, we are always looking to raise awareness and funds for those in a less fortunate position. Thanks! The link to donate is here: https://lnkd.in/eEaM6QqQ

In today's report by Business Daily, insightful discoveries from the recent IMF report elucidate why Kenyans do not earn interest on their M-Pesa balances. According to the 2014 National Payment System, interest distribution is prohibited. Instead, any income generated from trust fund placements is channeled towards public charitable organizations, benefiting the community. This distinctive approach underscores Kenya's dedication to advancing financial inclusion and supporting societal welfare. telebirr ethio telecom National Bank of Ethiopia #FinancialInclusion #MPesa #Kenya #Ethiopia #IMFReport

The greatest amongst us, are those willing serve. This absolutely describes the selfless work that Buzstop Boys does. A group of volunteers making public places clean for free. While Accra is certainly one of the most exciting and thriving African cities, we can't run away from the fact that more has to be done when it comes to sanitation and keeping the city clean. There are so many debates around this; some feel that it's the job of the Government, others feel that the citizens need to pull their weight. While most people are debating who is right and who is wrong Buzstop Boys have stood up and done something about it. That's why as an organization we felt it was important to give something to their selfless work. At #WeDoArtForGood we hope to be an NGO that plays a small part in work that community leaders like Buzstop Boys do. Because we believe in the power of Art and Environmental Initiatives that have tangible social impact. We were thrilled, and humbled to have our first ever donation be to the remarkable and important work of Buzstop Boys. Every single one of us benefit when they clean the gutters, whether it's just the aesthetics or on a more serious note the health benefits, we salute Buzstop Boys. If you want to support their work reach out to us at #WeDoArtForGood (wedoartforgood@gmail.com) or go directly to Buzstop Boys gofundme page to support their work - https://lnkd.in/dpZvhmJ9 Every dollar and Cedi counts! #WeDoArtForGood #BuzstopBoys #CleanInnerCities #TrueGlobalCitizens

Did you know councils ‘wasted’ £46m of their own budget on SEND tribunals in 2021-2022? And a further £14m of public funds were wasted as a result? "A study by the Pro Bono Economics think-tank, commissioned by the Disabled Children’s Partnership charity, reveals more than 11,000 SEND tribunals contesting local authority decisions were registered in 2021-22: an increase of 29% on the previous year. But tribunal judges found against councils in 96% of cases – indicating significant problems with the way many councils currently compile or resource SEND plans for children." The National Youth Agency is calling for greater investment in Youth Services. The implementation of legislation to underpin councils’ legal duty to provide a local youth offer is among a series of recommendations in a new manifesto designed to increase young people’s access to youth services. The NYA states that the introduction of a new government document would have to be accompanied with greater spending on youth services. Other recommendations listed in the report include the creation of a national youth strategy and a dedicated youth minister at cabinet level with a cross-departmental remit. We greatly support this new manifesto and hope that the government takes the suggestion of a new Statutory Duty Youth Services Act onboard. #youthservices #youth #youthspending #council #charity

Foundations have been responding to the recent racist violence. In today's blog, ACF's head of practice Jim Cooke explores the immediate actions ACF members have taken, including: ✅ Taking an active stance ✅ Checking in with grantees/partners ✅ Meeting urgent funding needs ✅ Having a flexible and trust-based approach to funding ✅ Reaffirming existing commitments to long-term racial justice funding ✅ Supporting their own staff. #Foundations also recognise that much more work will be needed in the months and years ahead to counter the riots’ root causes and pursue a more just and equitable society. We will share more next week about how foundations can respond in the longer term. Thanks to all mentioned, including: Bonnie Chiu The Henry Smith Charity UnLtd Barnwood Trust Esmée Fairbairn Foundation Migration Exchange (MEX) The Legal Education Foundation Fozia Irfan OBE BBC Children in Need Runnymede Trust Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales Ngozi Lyn Cole she/her Martha Mackenzie Li-En Y.
