Why Celeb Weddings Rule the Indian Wedding Fashion Industry
As the co-founder and design head at Mish, we rarely dabble in the world of bridal lehengas and grand wedding finery. But there's no denying the immense influence celebrity weddings have on the entire fashion landscape in India, and especially the wedding wear segment.
Think about it: with over 10 million weddings happening annually in India (source: [Fibre2Fashion]), it's a massive market. And within that, bridal wear is a powerhouse, estimated at a whopping ₹1,020 billion (source: [Financial Express]).
Here's why the business of wedding fashion is obsessed with celebrity weddings:
1. Massive reach and social media frenzy: Celebrity weddings are a national spectacle. With extensive media coverage and social media buzz, millions tune in to see what the bride and groom are wearing. This immense reach translates into instant brand awareness for the designers associated with the wedding.
2. Trendsetters with a sprinkle of aspiration: Celebrities are often seen as style icons, and their wedding outfits become aspirational for brides across the country. Their choices set the tone for the upcoming wedding season, influencing everything from silhouettes and embellishments to color palettes.
3. Luxury redefined: Celeb weddings are synonymous with opulence. From couture designers to heritage jewelry, these events showcase the absolute best in craftsmanship and design. This, in turn, pushes the boundaries of what's considered luxurious in the wedding wear market.
Now, the influence isn't without its challenges. Rapidly changing trends can make some outfits feel dated quickly. We might not be designing lehengas, but the focus on quality, design sensibility, and staying ahead of the curve is what we share with the world of celebrity wedding fashion.

Today marks exactly one month until my wedding day 💒
At the risk of sounding a little bit too much like the author of the viral ‘what B2B sales taught me about proposing to my wife’ LinkedIn post (Google it!) here are some observations I've made as a bridal consumer:
1. The Wedding Tax is real: plenty of clothing and accessories brands I’ve looked at have dedicated Bridal collections that use the same materials and offer the same customer experience as their everyday offering, but are more expensive and less nice. I’m all for paying more for feathers and sequins, but if you are carving out a niche in the bridal market, what are these customers getting on top of your standard offering?
2. There is a wedding font and I hate it: You know the one I mean. Thick, loopy but somehow sans serif? Usually in rose gold and used to declare things like ‘WIFEY’ on cowboy hats? I have been turned off buying so many monogrammed items because they won’t offer me the choice of something, anything else as a font.
3. Not all wedding-centric vendors are created equal: I’ve had some fabulous customer experiences as I’ve moved through the wedding planning process and I’ve also been shocked by how little some of them are capitalising on their target market. These are consumers who are coming to them in a positive mindset, excited and expecting to spend. It’s the dream profile for up-selling and - in some scenarios - creating a life long loyal customer or brand advocate. So why don’t they reply to customer emails?
4. Sizing inclusivity and sustainability are woefully behind the times when it comes to bridal fashion: My first port of call when I went wedding dress shopping was to check they would even let me try anything on given my dress size. Nine times out of ten this information wasn’t advertised on their website and you’d be surprised how many said no. When it came to buying an outfit for my engagement party or my hen do, the majority of things I liked didn’t come larger than a 12. The ones that did were… not to my taste. I’ve been disappointed in the lack of options for someone like me, who loves fashion and wants to wear something fun that isn’t poor quality or unethically made. We have proven we can do better elsewhere, so why not for brides?
Anyway! To end on a positive note let me share some of the fantastic people, brands & businesses who are really getting it right in terms of customer experience, sustainability, size inclusivity and - most importantly - don’t use That Font.

Knowing brides have an abundance of choices online and in stores, as well as buckets of advice from well-meaning friends and relatives, wedding dress designers and brands are trying to simplify shopping. From using everyday people instead of over-styled ultra-glam models to offering digital try-ons, bridal resources are trying to help shoppers define their views of the perfect wedding dress.
While many discerning brides will try on dozens of styles before buying one, some enjoy the search so much that they keep shopping even after they have decided on what they want. (The more enterprising consumers have boasted about trying on 15 to 20 dresses per appointment per Reddit.) Along with endless scrolling, there are plenty of in-store options from specialty stores to department stores and high-end boutiques. As of this year, there were 6,884 bridal shops in the U.S.

Rings for women, especially bridal and wedding rings, are not just pieces of jewelry; they are symbols of love, commitment, and a shared future. Bridal wedding rings are typically comprised of two parts: the engagement ring and the wedding band, each holding its significance and style.
⏩𝙀𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙍𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨
The engagement ring is traditionally given during the proposal and is often the more elaborate of the two. It usually features a central gemstone, with diamonds being the most popular choice due to their durability and brilliance. Engagement rings come in various settings, such as solitaire, halo, or three-stone, and are often made from precious metals like platinum, white gold, yellow gold, or rose gold.
⏩𝙒𝙚𝙙𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘽𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨
The wedding band is exchanged during the wedding ceremony and is typically simpler in design compared to the engagement ring. It is usually a solid band of metal, sometimes adorned with small diamonds or intricate designs. Some women choose to match their wedding band with their engagement ring to create a cohesive look, while others prefer a contrasting style for a unique combination.
⏩𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙚𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜
Many bridal sets are available where the engagement ring and wedding band are designed to complement each other perfectly. Another trend is stacking multiple rings, including anniversary bands, on the same finger as the wedding and engagement rings, creating a layered, personalized look.
⏩𝙋𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙚𝙙 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙨
Modern brides often seek personalized touches in their wedding rings. This can include custom engravings on the inside of the band, choosing colored gemstones for a pop of color, or selecting vintage or heirloom designs that carry sentimental value.
⏩𝙎𝙩𝙮𝙡𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙏𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙨
While classic styles remain popular, trends in bridal wedding rings evolve. Currently, vintage-inspired rings, rose gold metals, and alternative gemstones like sapphires or emeralds are gaining popularity. Additionally, minimalist and geometric designs appeal to brides who prefer a more contemporary look.
In summary, bridal wedding rings for women are deeply personal choices, reflecting individual style, the love shared with a partner, and the life they are about to build together. Whether opting for a timeless diamond solitaire or a trendy stack of mixed-metal bands, the right rings symbolize not only a commitment to another person but also a celebration of love and partnership.

When is it too early?
Before you say "I do" to that wedding dress, let's talk about why it pays to have patience when deciding which dress to buy for your wedding.
Once you get engaged, that urge to dive into bridal shops is tempting.
But timing is everything.
Finding that sweet spot between shopping too early and too late is crucial.
Let's break down the wedding dress shopping timeline and tackle the burning question:
How early is too early to say yes to the dress?
I have seen many brides who have planned their wedding for a year or two away but rushed out to buy their dress, only to get nearer to the time and not like it anymore, or it doesn't fit.
Shopping for your dream dress too soon can leave you drowning in a sea of options, turning even the most decisive bride into a blubbering mess.
Every season, a fresh batch of stunning bridal designs hits the bridal shops, throwing more options into the arena.
And keep in mind that the bridal shops have sales at the end of the season to make room for all those new designs.
Now, there's nothing wrong with a bit of wedding dress shopping to gauge which style you like and suits you, but perhaps hold off on the buying in case it comes up In the sales. That's a tip worth considering for any budget-savvy brides.
That's a gamble you might not be comfortable with in case you miss out, but it might be worth it in the long run if you have plenty of time before your wedding day.
Do you know how much you have to spend on your dress?
Have you done your budget and found your venue yet?
Perhaps it might be prudent to leave off buying the dress until you have more of your wedding planning in place and know what kind of money you have left to spend on your wedding dress.
