The pace of announcements by Western governments to bolster the critical minerals supply chain this week has been remarkable. Initiatives like the MSP and the EU’s SAFE framework are unified in their demand for responsible and sustainable production. This focus is not just about securing supply, but ensuring it is developed in a way that aligns with the values of modern society. As highlighted in Sovereign Metals’ latest update, meeting these evolving standards is not optional; it's a business imperative. The company’s commitment to responsible rutile production in Malawi positions it perfectly to support global supply chain resilience while adhering to these stringent new requirements. It's encouraging to see such alignment between industry efforts and government frameworks as we navigate this transformative phase for the sector. #CriticalMinerals #SustainableMining #ResponsibleProduction

I see 3 scenarios for how the critical minerals push plays out; a race to the bottom (very bad), more of the same (bad), and a race to the top (good). Let me know what you think of my OpEd on that idea, prompted by the recent International Energy Agency (IEA) Critical Minerals report. https://lnkd.in/e3hXPWZ7

Yesterday, the Government of Canada announced that Canada Nickel Company has been selected for a $4.38 million contribution from the Critical Minerals Infrastructure Fund! With CMIF's support and meaningful Indigenous partnerships, we are able to integrate pre-implementation studies for electrical infrastructure into our flagship Crawford Nickel Sulphide Project, a key step in creating a low-carbon power grid that has the ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 60% compared to diesel operations. Crawford, located in the Timmins Nickel District, is set to become Canada’s largest nickel mine and will contribute vital nickel, cobalt, and chromium to the Canadian Critical Minerals Strategy. With a permanent carbon storage component, Crawford has the potential to be a net-zero contributor over its lifetime, directly supporting Canada's 2050 net-zero target while creating 1,500+ high-paying jobs. A huge thank you to Minister Jonathan Wilkinson, Parliamentary Secretary Marc G. Serré, MP Viviane L., and our valued partners. Together, we’re building a future where resource development aligns with environmental stewardship, Indigenous reconciliation, and sustainability.
