The “Carbon and Hydrogen Innovation & Learning Incubator” (CHILI) is live and heating up the innovation ecosystem in Texas with a first-of-a-kind comprehensive hardware startup ecosystem incubator. As the President of Texas Innovates Board of Directors, I am proud to announce that the DOE Office of Technology Transitions selected our non-profit organization to focus on hydrogen and carbon innovation and expansion in the greater Houston and Gulf Coast region. We are one of 23 phase 1 winners of the Energy Program for Innovation Clusters (EPIC) Round 3 competition and the only Texas entity. The CHILI will harness regional academic resources, including the University of Houston and Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship, and align startups with our corporate partners and their lab facilities, venture capital like Climate Impact Capital, and large-scale efforts like the HyVelocity Hub. We are actively seeking startups and corporate partners for CHILI. How do we charge up Europe’s battery startup ecosystem? ⚡ Europe’s clean energy future must come with #batteries included. But while the continent’s startups and SMEs regularly make technological advances, finding the right markets for the resulting products and services can be a stumbling block. To make the clean energy transition happen faster, we worked with Oost NL and 11 partners across Europe to design a Business Acceleration Programme for #batterystartups and SMEs. Across four years, the STEPSNWE programme supported a class of 49 promising energy storage companies with funding, an expert network and live testing environments in markets out of their reach. From garden-based heat batteries to mobile hydrogen generators, 19 battery innovations were tested for the first time in new markets through the Business Accelerator Programme. Startups often face various challenges on the path to market. In support of #startups, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory provides companies with the resources necessary to progress from the early phases to commercialization. One benefitting startup, IN² company 7AC Technologies, recently shared how NREL helped the company with the design and development of their liquid desiccant #HVAC system. #Startup companies strive every day to achieve #inflection #points that most people would say are impossible to achieve. However, when that happens, it leads to opportunities that can turn big #visions into tangible #realities. That's what startups are for! I'm proud to say that the Osmoses team has done it again! In 2019/2020 we discovered polymer materials with unprecedented performance that most thought impossible to achieve, later published in Science Magazine. In 2021 we won the MIT $100K Entrepreneurship Competition, became Activate fellows, and received funding from Engine Ventures, Fine Structure Ventures, Orbia and several others to pursue this dream at the speed and urgency required by the #energy #transition. In 2022 we hired our first full-time teammates, and now we are more than 20 people with one vision: to rebuild industrial infrastructure where #separations are not a bottleneck to a cleaner future anymore! Since Energy Capital Ventures, New Climate Ventures, Collaborative Fund, Blindspot Ventures and many others joined our journey, we could push on the accelerator even more, and 2024 has been a great year so far, full of strategic progress and remarkable additions to the team. I'm thrilled to celebrate what the Osmoses team has accomplished with relentless work in the product and commercial side, excite to welcome Robert Bory, Ed Sanders Ph.D., and Swapan Rahman to our team and applaud Katherine Mizrahi Rodriguez in her new expanded leadership role.
