I’m searching for funding/grant/sponsorship for our local Katariki Kura in Te Taitokerau. Our small Catholic Hato Hohepa Te Kamura Kura in the far north (Kaeo/Whangaroa) is planning a trip to Rarotonga next year (2025) with a focus on “Climate Change” i.e. sea level rise, which we know will have devastating impacts on the smaller Islands. We intend to fundraise for the trip all year (2025) but would appreciate any funding/grant/sponsorship assistance. We are still in the planning stages but hope to take 20 children and 6 adults (teachers/parent helpers) The Kura is in a flood zone, with the sea only 200 meters or so from the buildings, and a marginal sea/land level differentiation, and has been affected by many 1-50, and 1-100 rainfall events since 2007. On top of the rainfall events, the Kura will (in the future) be subject to “sea level rise” through climate change. Rarotonga is researched to be one of the most vulnerable islands to “sea level rise”. The trip is intended to 1. Observe the land and infrastructure currently available in Rarotonga 2. Meet with organisations tasked with sea level rise “risk mitigation” projects or proposals for future developments 3. learn how temperature rise will impact on sealife 4. Propose innovative ways in which future infrastructure planning for their Kura may avoid or mitigate the impacts of climate change sea level rise If this is something you could fund/grant/sponsor or contribute to or if we need to include a more focused intent to meet any funding /sponsorship criteria, we would appreciate direction, guidance, and any assistance. The Kura is happy to acknowledge the grant/sponsorship publicly and send a report back to contributors if required post-trip. We would appreciate any direction to other networks/organisations that may be able to contribute to the project. please PM me and thanks for reading.

Did you know the UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) 🇬🇧 has just opened a Call for Proposals under the Blue Planet Fund? 🤩🌊 The Ocean Community Empowerment and Nature (OCEAN) Grants Programme supports locally-led projects to deliver lasting change to the marine environment and coastal communities. One in ten of the global population has a high dependence on nutritional, economic, and coastal protection benefits. While the Ocean provides and contributes USD$1.5trn to the global economy, less than 1 per cent (USD$13 billion) of this total value was invested in the Ocean economy through sustainable projects in the past decade. 🗓️ The closing date for community grants is Monday 18 March 2024 and the closing date for partnership grants is Tuesday 2 April 2024. I'm excited to share a newly published report @TheWaterReportUS on the critical role private philanthropy plays in advancing water science, influencing policy, and empowering communities to build climate resilient water systems in New Mexico and the broader Southwest. Facing escalating aridification and water scarcity, private foundations are funding innovative research, supporting policy reform, and bolstering local capacity. The report also highlights how philanthropy is helping communities leverage federal funds from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act to scale up sustainable water management practices. Read the full report to explore how these efforts are shaping a more secure water future for New Mexico and beyond. #WaterManagement #Philanthropy #ClimateResilience #WaterPolicy #NewMexico #Sustainability

BC Provides update on Old Growth Conservation It's refreshing to see that the Province is pursuing a more consensus / cooperative approach to consulting with the Nations and Industry. Last time around they pushed the agenda through with little consultation which greatly reduced relational trust. We'll see if this new approach is more constructive https://lnkd.in/gEajZRMq

Today, the government has announced an overhaul of the planning system aimed at 'fixing the foundations and growing the economy'. We must of course enable nature recovery alongside our economic ambitions. So we welcome the government's intention to introduce a strategic planning system across England in this Parliament - this approach will not only will deliver much needed economic growth, but will sit alongside commitments to protect and improve the natural environment. We would say this wouldn't we but our scheme’s local-to-national strategic approach to nature conservation is delivering fantastic environmental outcomes – the first ever landscape-scale, long-term, fully monitored, fully spatial species conservation strategy - all funded by developers without a penny of taxpayers’ money. NatureSpace District Licensing - a private, public, NGO sector partnership which unlocks economic growth and delivers nature recovery.

Today, our CEO Peter Simpson and future CEO Mark Thurston attended a Business in the Community event in #Wisbech where we were jointly showcasing the #FutureFens programme – a place-based approach to protect the Fens against the impacts of climate change and deliver social prosperity for one of our region’s most deprived areas. On the back of the event, Anglian Water and its alliance partners, announced £2m of partnership funding for new Green Skills Academy in Wisbech, which will fund the training of 900 people in vital environmental skills. The Fens in the East of England are among the places most exposed to the impact of climate change. On the frontline of rising sea levels, at growing risk of severe tidal flooding, and located in the driest part of the country, where water shortages are, without investment, a very real and increasing risk. But despite these challenges, this landscape has over half of the UK’s most fertile land. Dubbed the breadbasket of Britain, it supplies a fifth of the nation's crops and one third of its vegetables, so it protecting it is vital. During his time as CEO at Anglian Water, Peter Simpson has played a pivotal role chairing a taskforce to bring like-minded leaders and companies together with a vision for The Fens; creating a pipeline for green jobs, better transport links, and new housing projects, centred around a reservoir that will be used for flood alleviation as well as water supply. Demonstrated as a global exemplar of landscape-scale climate adaptation at COP26 in Glasgow in 2021, Future Fens: Integrated Adaptation is a longstanding collaboration between local, regional and national partners including Anglian Water, the Environment Agency, Water Resources East Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority and Lincs CountyCouncil to realise the opportunities and potential within this area.
