We are proud to share that we have partnered with Robert Gordon University to restore Waterside Farm, one of the largest biodiversity projects on a university campus in Scotland. The SRM Foundation has donated £100,000 to enhance the site’s already high carbon-holding capacity and to demonstrate an exemplary approach to sustainable land stewardship, crucial to achieve a clean energy economy. The project seeks to support the transformation of the site into a thriving habitat for a range of threatened species whilst also safeguarding the area for future generations. Our Chief Executive Officer Francesco Mazzagatti commented: “Being the first project for our foundation, we intend to be closely involved in order to document the measurable benefits of restoring a biodiversity site so we can showcase the immense importance of climate philanthropy in the transition to a clean energy economy.” Find out more about the project on our website using the link below. #EnergyTransition #CleanEnergy #Biodiversity 🔗https://lnkd.in/gDk6c7gZ

It's vital that environmental work in UK Overseas Territories gets the amount and type of support it needs - the OTs contain much of the UK's most important nature but are seriously underfunded, putting incredible ecosystems at risk. An effective way for funders to do this is through a pooled fund - this report sets out the evidence and impact of the approach.

They must implement restoration activities on the ground, including community development and activities that lead to registration with a carbon standard to attract further finance. They should see and use the funding as a springboard, and continue activities after the support period has culminated. Here’s the deadline: Project proposals must be submitted by Thursday 13 February 2025 at 17:00 (5pm) Central European Time (CET). 🌍 💭 "What does success look like to you?" 💭 🌍 This question is at the heart of this thought-provoking article from The Chronicle of Philanthropy that challenges traditional donor-driven evaluation frameworks. Exploring a women-led oyster farming cooperative in Mexico, this piece highlights how communities define success beyond metrics like harvest size or labor hours - focusing instead on dignity, equity, and environmental stewardship. This article invites donors and development practitioners alike to rethink how we measure impact, centering the voices of those who matter most. Read more below to learn how participatory approaches can foster sustainable, meaningful change. 👇

I attended the 2024 Global Congress of the International Land Conservation Network in mid-October. It brought together private, public, Indigenous and non-profit leaders to discuss the challenges and solutions facing land conservation globally. The congress was relevant as I am currently working on a conservation finance project. Here were three key takeaways (but, not the only ones!): ➡️Indigenous leadership. Indigenous Peoples are leading innovations in conservation finance, area protection and its governance. Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas are an example. ➡️The interest in conservation finance. There was a large appetite for financial innovations that could help to secure protected and conserved lands. ➡️The need for partnerships: These must go across organizational, sectoral and even national boundaries. The idea of “radical partnerships” was evoked, which I understood as collaborations between unlikely parties.
