Great news for Bay Area communities! The San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) announced that the Regional Shoreline Adaptation Plan (RSAP) has been adopted! 🎉 The RSAP will guide the creation of coordinated, locally-planned sea level rise adaptation actions that work together to meet regional goals. After two years of stakeholder engagement, community workshops, and public comments, BCDC adopted the RSAP as required by SB 272. Coastal Quest is thrilled for this pivotal milestone in BCDC’s history that will help pave the way for how cities and practitioners can coordinate efforts and take action for a more resilient shoreline. Now’s the time for communities across the Bay to make progress. Local jurisdictions within BCDC's shoreline will have until January 2034 to complete Subregional Plans according to the Guidelines in the RSAP. Learn more about the RSAP and how local jurisdictions will need to get involved by visiting https://lnkd.in/gtbNs586

Marking the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, we recognize that enduring conservation must actively involve people and partners linked to the natural systems we protect. This drove the creation of the Voice, Choice and Action (VCA) Framework, designed with respect for Indigenous Peoples and local communities’ connections to the natural world. The VCA aims to address deep-rooted challenges and support the visions of Indigenous and local communities that partner with TNC. Read about the VCA main strategies here: https://nature.ly/4df9yRj

#SundaySpecies The Humpback whales: a conservation success story 💙🐋 Humpback whales were brought to the brink of extinction by commercial whaling by the mid-20th century. However, through concerted conservation efforts, including the establishment of marine protected areas, and various national and international legal protections, their populations have significantly rebounded. This exemple shows that coordinated efforts can save marine life. This is why, through many initiatives, the #OceanDecade aims to foster global cooperation for ocean. Did you know that these marine mammals are highly migratory and normally sail along Tanzania water between July-September each year on their way to southern area of the Indian ocean!? The Humpback are toothless and are filter feeders! Giving birth mostly to one calf and very layer (more than one), they breast feed their calves for 6-10 months, and provide some parental care including protection from predators. These wonderful marine mammals attain maturity at an average of 5-7 years, and give birth after every 1-3 years, whereby for a female individual knomaly undergo a gestation period of 11-12 months! Lastly they have a lifespan of 40-50 years based on the nature of external wild environment whereby there are plenty of threats and requires the survivability of the fittest
