This NAIDOC Week, Griefline celebrates Aboriginal and Torrrs Strait Islander peoples, while embracing the call to reclaim narratives, amplify voices, and commit to justice and equality. 🖤💛❤️ As we reflect on the many moments in Australia’s reconciliation journey, we are reminded that disengagement is not an option, even when faced with division. Coming together, yarning with like-minded individuals, and tackling the unfinished business of reconciliation is crucial. Our journey towards reconciliation has been enriched by the insights from the RAP Learning Circle attended by our RAP working group chair, Kerrie Arthur, during Reconciliation Week. These sessions offered participants a space for dialogue, learning, and understanding. Key takeaways from the session include: 🖤 ️ Building relationships: Strengthening connections with First Nations peoples through respect, pride, and understanding of their rich cultures, histories, and knowledge. 💛 Overcoming challenges: Addressing the hurdles in implementing Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs) and finding pathways to overcome them. ❤️ Inspirational insights: Learning from leaders like Louise Ellis from ANZ and Alanah Scholes, RAP Program Manager for the NRL, who shared their experiences on meaningful reconciliation within organizations. Our commitment continues in treaty-making, truth-telling, historical understanding, education, and combating racism. We recognise the need for connection, respect, action, and change. 🖤💛❤️ #NAIDOCWeek2024 #Reconciliation #RAP #TruthTelling #Treaty

As part of National Reconciliation Week, the Winslow Group has launched its online Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Appreciation training. Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. As Australians, we can all be proud to be the home of one of the oldest continuous civilisations on Earth, extending back more than 65,000 years. Our Cultural Appreciation training course aims to increase employees’ awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their culture. Cultural awareness is a first step towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural competency, which refers to an ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. The focus of our training is to provide background and context, and then to move into appropriate behaviour from Winslow employees. Each person at Winslow is empowered to make good decisions to look after each other as family, be accountable to each other and be committed to operating safely. It’s the Winslow Way. #Winslow #TheWinslowWay #WinslowLearning #WinslowCommunity #NRW2024 #NationalReconciliationWeek2024

In Belize, solidarity culture looks something like this. Everybody concern about fair treatment, but very few show up. Even when organizations meet in workshops and the state organize people and say we leave no one behind, the people in the room remain quiet. Even when fabulous statements are made at the UN or the OAS, the political representative returns home to do nothing. Even when organizations meet and verbally agree a problem needs to be fixed, they walk out the room and forget the collective informal agreement. We make no statements, that acknowledge the marginalised in the environmental sector, among unions, in the private sector, among indigenious groups, older persons or in disability spaces because our diversity of mandates do not permit. I argue that we have an obligation to amplify the needs of the marginalised if we believe in a people centred approach to our citizenship and development. I argue that every sector has interrelated issues that are structural or systemic. I argue that failure to acknowledge the marginalised is complicity by omission, inaction and indifference to uphold systems of oppression. Our mindset of what about me, needs to change to what about us. Anything less is unforgiveable. The struggle continues!

Its time to end the outdated binary view of Open vs Supported Employment and just focus on providing work choices and pathways for anyone with a disability who wants to work. The more the better. Thanks to a generous multi-year grant from the Bowness Family Foundation , Wallara has been running an innovative pilot program leveraging our corporate partners to enable our employees to take that next step without risk. Here is a summary of the outcomes and impact to date. Big shout out to Carolyn Bloch who led the program for us with expert oversight from Simon O'Brien and incredible support from Leonie Boxtel GAICD. This is what inclusion at work looks like. The challenge now is to see if we can make this work financially sustainable without Foundation support because this work should be happening nationwide and organisations like us are perfectly suited to doing it. #supportedemployment #futureofwork #disabilityrights #inclusion
