Funders need to create alliances and networks of organizations working towards sustainable progress. We have the potential to rectify unjust systems and advance equity through collective efforts, community participation, and the amalgamation of diverse voices into one ecosystem. Read Sandra Witt's — Managing Director of Power Infrastructure, Program & Partnerships, The California Endowment — enlightening op-ed, "Building Community Power is The Key to Equity and Justice in California," to learn more about how philanthropy can approach transformational long-term changes through power building and investing in the communities we serve. https://buff.ly/3OnPGRu #CommunityEngagement #EquityInAction

The Lowenstein Center for the Public Interest is representing low-income renters in Asbury Park who were displaced or overcharged due to the city’s mismanagement of an affordable housing program. The center is seeking compensation for tenants' out-of-pocket costs and damages for the violation of their state constitutional right to affordable housing. Lowenstein pro bono lawyers also continue to collaborate with tenant advocates to promote due process in eviction proceedings, advocating for improvements in court procedures to ensure fairness for tenants facing eviction. When we say we make data-driven investments that are informed by the needs of the community, this is what we mean: Rocket Community Fund's flagship Neighbor to Neighbor program hires residents as #volunteers who go door-to-door to provide their neighbors with resources and information to help them stay in their homes. It's also a fact-finding mission, where we learn about the issues most concerning to residents. In 2023, they launched Neighbor to Neighbor in #Atlanta. Based on those findings, we've begun investing in programs and partnerships to better support residents with critical housing resources. #Peacebuilders’ work is not straightforward. They work in volatile contexts and are constantly forced to overcome new challenges. So, they need funders to be their allies. To provide financial support that helps them address long-term local concerns and adapt to changing #community needs. 📣 Changing may not be easy, but it’s time to do better. Read our partners’ perspectives on the impact of #funding approaches and discover how we, and some of our funders are changing for the better. 👉 https://lnkd.in/e8MUh6ac Robert Bosch Stiftung People's Postcode Lottery Humanity United

Hugely grateful to the 80+ people who have got Mustard Seed Property nudging the £200k mark over the past few months. With just 4 DAYS to go, please share as widely as you can to help this get in front of people who might be able to put up to £100,000 of their savings to work for people facing real crisis in #Cornwall. Invest from as little as £100. This investment round is specifically to build a gorgeous new co-living development in Redruth for some Very Important People. You will be joining hundreds of other ordinary people (and a handful of foundations) investing their savings in a way that is transformational for people who really need it. Returns are modest but stable. Of course not without risk, but this organisation has a fabulous board and a 15 year track record of turning community power into life changing homes whilst paying real returns. Cornwall needs thousands of new supported homes to keep up with demand. Be part of the solution. Please DO NOT invest if you are in financial difficulty. #investingforimpact United Response St Petrocs Resonance Limited Ethex

It is the last day of #FairHousingMonth. Thank you to all the great FHIPs, FHAPs, nonprofits, and other organizations that hosted events throughout the month of April. I want to leave this year’s Fair Housing Month with a challenge: 1. If you have not, then go read ‘The Color of Law,’ written by Richard Rothstein. Rothstein argues with detailed examples how segregation in America is the result of explicit government policies at the local, state, and federal levels. In sum, de facto segregation is a myth. Those governmental policies continue to harm our cities today. 2. If you have not, then go read ‘Just Action,’ written by Richard and Leah Rothstein. Just Action describes how we begin to undo those harmful policies today. Fair Housing Month may be ending, but the work continues…

Many of our government-funded systems are failing the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. At the same time, we are side-lining our greatest national asset: local people. We have a stark choice — to keep pouring money into policies we know aren't working, or to invest in new and better ways that really improve people's lives. Listen to Steve’s latest book, ‘A Manifesto for Hope’ and discover the ten key principles needed to live out this new approach:

The $300m USD California Endowment Fund is interesting. Its core proposition is that “transforming California begins and ends with people power”. Central to which is the concept of organizing at community level with no silos - “funding campaigns helping end mass incarceration; welcome, protect, and promote our immigrant and refugee relatives; helping us create housing and health for all people; care for our common home and disrupt the climate emergency affecting all of us.” The fund enables philanthropy to follow “the lead of community organizers in developing intergenerational leadership, raising the voices of those closest to systemic problems, and promoting civic engagement and activism.” I wonder about the impact this can have on ethical investing too. Do you have experience of community endowments like this and/or what are your thoughts? #nfp #communityorganizing
