"History will judge your efforts."   Speaking at yesterday's United Nations Security Council Session on Children and Armed Conflict, Ban Ki-moon conveyed deep shock and outrage at the escalation of grave violations against children in 2023, and the decades-long failures of political will to address the issue. Mr Ban also raised the profound concern of all Elders with the continuously high levels of sexual violence against girls in conflicts worldwide and implored Council Members to fulfil their responsibility to hold perpetrators accountable, and ensure the rights of survivors and their children are respected. In his concluding call to the Council, he outlined the need for urgent reform of the international peace and security architecture and urged all member states to seize the opportunity to build a better, safer future for the children of the world. I couldn’t agree with you more. We need leaders who are compassionate and care about children. We need voices for children.
