Ahead of the Summit of the Future, Oxfam urges the UN member states to take decisive and bold action to rebuild a more equal, inclusive, efficient and responsive system, which truly captures the UN Charter’s ambitions and puts global peace above politics. This includes making the following changes: + Renouncing the P5 veto and penholding monopoly and, instead, expanding membership to represent people and not military power. + Permanent member states have a moral responsibility to uphold International Humanitarian Law and the Arms Trade Treaty, and stop arms transfers and military aid that exacerbate violence and suffering, and that are potentially used in committing war crimes. + Women and other disadvantaged groups must be at the heart of peace negotiations: this is the only way to find inclusive and sustainable solutions. + The international community must make humanitarian funding mandatory to create a humanitarian finance system that leaves no one behind. The big military powers in the World are on war path. It's creating immence destruction and increasing amount of suffering and injustice, displaced people who loose everything, their homes, their jobs, all their belongings, their families shred apart, And those who survive, suffer severe physical and mental traumas and need immediate assistance, care and cure, and it is a long lasting healing process to become active and independent members the society. But OF WHICH SOCIETY? If their own has betrayed them? The political climate has become more hostile and reluctant to solve the refugee problem we have akready in the World, many countries are struggling with their internal economy. The military machinery and armament is seen as an investment, and the World is filled with hate talk and racism which incites for violence. The aggressors seldom will be held accauntable for their crimes agaist humanity, nor take responsinility for the victims of their atrocities. How long can we maintain this development, investing in war WARFARE billions and billions, at the expense of WELLFARE? The society is HEALTHY and SUSTAINABLE, if it takes care of all its members. The society is SICK, if there are groups of people DISCRIMINATED, OPPRESSED or even ANNIHILATED and PERSECUTED. It is at its WORST when this is LED by the GOVERNMENTS themselves. The ECONOMY of PREVALENT WARFARE against WELFARE is NOT SUSTAINABLE and sooner or later it will collapse. Many countries just PUSH their unwanted to EXILE without any RESPONSIBILITY of the COST they cause which is MATERIAL and IMMATERIAL. It cannot go on like this anymore, when we are on the EDGE of WW3. If one COUNTRY slaughters own people and creates over 3 MILLION REFUGEES in a year and thinks other people take care of it, this CANNOT be TOLERATED. As we see from the history, an amount of 750,000 REFUGEES in the long run (80-100 years) will become 6 to 8 MILLION REFUGEES, and the cost to 'maintain' the problem instead of resolving it will be even hundred times bigger. The only way to SUSTAINABILITY, PROSPERITY and WELFARE is to stop this VICIOUS CIRCLE of VIOLENCE and WARS. And the WAR CRIMINALS must be held accountable. Because even THE MONEY TALKS on favor of it, if nothing else.

HJS releases its latest report in the House of Commons today: ‘A Culture of Impunity: Understanding Conflict-Related Sexual Violence in Contemporary Proxy War’ by Communications Director Megan Gittoes. Soaring conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) demands immediate action. The mobilisation of non-state actors in warzones has led to a culture of impunity on the frontline. Megan’s report examines proxy conflicts in Syria, Ukraine, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Israel, and urges the international community to revise its outdated outlook on warfare in order to address competing political agendas, a lack of accountability, and blurred lines that leave many survivors without justice. The UK must lead diplomatic efforts at the United Nations to acknowledge the changing character of warfare, as well as impose stringent measures to reinforce civilian protection, end impunity and bolster support for survivors. The lack of direct armed conflicts among first-tier states in recent decades should not be misinterpreted as a state of global peacetime; instead we must acknowledge that the world has shifted towards competing via surrogate forces within development nations.
