Deanne Gabel shared her story from hotel pool lifeguard at InterContinental Hotels & Resorts to Vice President at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts; ‘a combination of luck, opportunity and curiosity’, she modestly said. Anne-Francoise Brambach talked about her global journey in Human Resources from W Hotels to InterContinental Hotels & Resorts; ‘Putting people in the heart of business in order to achieve excellence’. According to Deanne, ‘Walt Disney World taught her ‘to hire the right leaders, who hire the right staff, train them and they will take care the guest’. Mrs. Brambach challenged the audience: ‘if you don’t come out of your comfort zone, take risks and make efforts, nothing extraordinary will happen to you’. Mrs. Gabel stated that ‘hospitality is a fantastic industry. You can go very far if your heart is into it. Every day is different and you meet very interesting people, including world leaders’. Anne-Francoise urged students to be well prepared before job interviews; ‘ about the position, the company, the interviewer and that you know what you want’. Both ladies agreed that the new generation needs to be ‘aware of their online presence as they represent their places of work and hospitality is all about ethical and professional presence’. A Smile Returns To You - Hospitality I expect all of us at one time or another have heard the term "A Smile will always return to you". How true this is, and employment within the Hospitality industry that surly is one of the prerequisites. The Marriott Brand has a 15-5 rule, and teaches employees to make eye contact, and smile at customers when they are within 15 feet, and to give a verbal greeting when customers are within 5 feet. This is so important and basically forms the foundation and expectation with guest engagement. I should also include The Ritz Carlton Hotels 3 steps of service Three Steps of Service 1. A warm and sincere greeting. Use the guest's name. 2. Anticipation and fulfillment of each guest's needs. 3. Fond farewell. Give a warm good-bye, and use the guest's name.
